Flouride is excellent for teeth. Consider that teeth are a kind of ceramic that looks pourous under a microscope. In fact, bacteria and food fill the holes regularly and are only washed out by brushing.

So how can these microscopic holes get filled? It ends up that flouride (stannous flouride, or sodium flouride) react with the tooth to fill it with material so that brushing makes them resistent to cavities from decaying food and bacteria.

Does the flouride cause other health problems? none that are known...but conspiracy theorists believe that flouride in public water is a some kind of government evil...go figure.

In the affidavit submitted by the Planning Commission(PC), it has suggested Rs. 32/- per person per day for survival. This apparently should include cost of not only food, clothing and shelter but also other necessities, including medical expenses. This only establishes how far removed is the PC from reality. And just because there is a hue and cry about the figure, the PC will submit a revised affidavit to the SC. This issue raises a basic question about the dependability of the PC's estimations and projections of other plans also. Mr. M S Ahluwalia has been quick to react after the criticisms, ok; but the Govt. should start having a look at the projections of various plans and policies of the PC. May be a total revamp of the PC is now called for!

Fluoride is necessary to protect the enamel on your teeth and keep out the cavities. Fluoride is in toothpaste and most tap water. Too much fluoride is also bad for your teeth....its all about balance. Watch your childs diet and talk to the dentist....my kids have excellent teeth..2 minutes in the morning..2 at night...flossing..diet high in calcium and low in sugar. Hard cheeses are excellent at removing plaque..I let my kids chew on sugar free gum after meals. My kids dont drink milk but do get lots of calcium in there diet. Change their toothbrushes every 2 months..and do not keep in a bathroom where there is an open toilet...flush with the lid down. Or keep the toothbrushes in a drawer..bacteria spreaders...Good luck..

Just about every dental and public health organization in the WORLD supports the use of fluoride in the prevention of cavities.

Fluoride works by strengthening the outer surface of the teeth. Bacteria on the teeth "eat" sugars in the mouth and produce acids that wear away at teeth. The fluoride makes teeth resistant to these acids.

Follow your dentist's recommendations for supplemental fluoride treatments for your child. Use toothpaste with fluoride (although you should still be monitoring your child to make sure she brushes properly and doesn't eat the toothpaste).

Long story short: fluoride is good stuff if used properly.

She is 9 and she has cavities already?! You must be on the lookout for her eating habits. Does she eat a lot if sugar? Sugar literally feeds the bacteria that cause cavities. Always make her brush her teeth at least twice a day! The dentist can provide you with a high fluoride toothpaste prescription and also reccomend a childrens mouthwash (I like A.C.T.) that wont burn her little mouth, so she will be more likely to perform proper oral care.

I even use medicated toothpaste for fluoride protection. I brush my teeth thoroughly, floss regularly, and wear Crest White Strips sample for whiter teeth. These invisible strips are a lot easier to use. You may also learn more about this product by browsing this site http://www.upkb.com/crestwhitestrips.php
