The downward deflection of the air caused by the tilt of the wings. (There is a popular notion that Bernoulli's principle is involved, but that is not correct.) It is exactly the same effect as what you can feel if you stick your hand out the window of an automobile moving at highway speed, and tilt your palm up or down.

The air under the wing is much denser than the air over the wing which pushes the plane up. It's all based on the shape of the wing. Go to your local childrens museum, many of them have flight displays where you can see it for yourself.
