That is a good question. To believe in the risen savior Jesus Christ makes you christian.
Believing in the old testament only kinda asks you to believe how the Jewish believe.(I think) hence Judaism.Haven't had a chance to take a crack at the Torah,so I'm wingin' it here.
Islam is a man's religion.Written by a mortal man for mortal men.The only problem I see with Islam is it offers no salvation, and Islam wants you to convert or die.As for the Christian crusades. Those people went against the word of God by ruling by the sword, but I can't answer for them. The Holy Bible was well into circulation long before Islam came about.Islam falls within the same boundaries as the founder of the Jehovah Witness's.He was a mortal man who offered nothing but alternative thinking.
I'm not bashing anyone, just going by the facts.

Islam has two meanings:

One is submission to god as in Islam (giving to god)

and the other is literally from the Arabic word for "Peace"

Thanks and peace be with you

the faith of God has nothing to do with people names, places or races, but to submit to God alone, and worship Him alone. and that's the definition of Islam.
