The hormones when you are pregnant cause you to hold on to every little thing, mostly nutirents for the baby. So your normal daily hair shedding is put on hold (with all the other stuff going on with your body, you probably didn't notice!). Once the baby is a few weeks old, or sometimes not until you stop breastfeeding, the hormones filter out of your system and all the hair that was supposed to be shed over that 9-10 months is now clogging up your shower drain..........

After pregnancy many women experience a loss of hair, this is caused many hair simultaneously entering the resting (telogen) phase. Within two to three months after giving birth, some women will notice large amounts of hair coming out in their brushes and combs. This can last one to six months, but resolves completely in most cases. This condition is caused by the hormonal changes that take place after a woman's body recovers from her pregnancy.

It's the changing of your hormone levels back to normal. In the process, some women lose handfuls of hair, like me.
Each time I have stopped breastfeeding my two kids in the past 3 years, my hair started filling up the brush everytime I brush my hair.
The hair does grow back. Just make sure you continue to take your prenatal vitamins.

That happened to me. I went to the doc and found out I had a thyroid problem. I noticed i was losing alot of my hair and it was almost impossible to lose weight. Now I take meds and I lost 15 lbs in about 1 week and my hair has stopped falling out.

To what i was told its because the baby takes all your vitamins and calcium(ext)from you and that's why the doctors ask you to take prenatal vitamins.Don't worry eventually all your hairs wont fall out. After a certain period of time you will be fine.No need to worry all us mom's go through that.

Giving birth is a strain on the female body and that sort of thing, tho uncommon, could take place. I would check with your OB for his/her opinion.
