Siamese Cats and Oriental shorthairs and other breeds which are closely related or have been developed from the Siamese breed, are quite different from the usual cat in personalty. The old fashioned "apple head" variety of the Siamese cat is a sturdier healthier hardier cat than the sleek tubular bodied show type of Siamese cat. Siamese are usually very vocal, and one sound they make which really gets human attention, is a meow that sounds very much like a human baby crying. Siamese usually are energetic cats. I've had several Siamese that were self taught natural retrievers, I would throw a toy or a ball and the cat would bring it to me to throw it again. I also have found that Siamese liked playing with water more than other breeds, liking drips from a faucet, etc, and one learned to flush the toilet coz he liked watching the water swirl down the drain. (Closing the lid of the toilet stopped that game, and also kept the water bill from going out of sight!) I had one cat that was half Siamese, who taught herself to urinate in the toilet although she never learned the art of flushing. She also knew how to open doors.
The gene responsible for the Siamese coat color pattern is a thermoreceptive partial albino gene (same gene also is responsible for Himalayan cats, the Himalayan rabbits, and other species that have this pattern of whitish coat, dark points, and blue eyes) The gene is a recessive gene, meaning both parents have to carry the gene to get progeny of the Siamese pattern. The coolest parts of the animals body (legs, tail, face, ears) will be the darkest. In winter, Siamese cats often darken in body color and lighten in body color in summertime, in response to temperature changes. Some people who show Siamese cats, keep them caged under warm lights so the cats body coats will stay light, giving the cat that beautiful contrast of really light coat and dark points seen in show photos. Siamese cats have eyes ranging from very light blue, to very deep beautiful dark blue. When you shine a light into their eyes though, the pupils will reflect red or reddish, that is due to the fact that Siamese is a form of albino.
Siamese cats are fun if you like an active, somewhat talkative, clever cat. If you're not breeding show cats though, have your female Siamese spayed or she can drive you crazy when she's in heat. Siamese are very vocal when they are in heat, and often will go out of heat and come right back in heat if they aren't bred. (Some breeders of Siamese keep a vasectomized male in the female colony of their catteries, to bring females not being bred that season, out of heat so they don't lose condition and dont drive the owners crazy from the noise of Siamese in heat.

I do not like cats, as they are unappreciative and don't like cleaning out their poo (litter box). Some siamese have a chalk board scraping meow, that they do for attention.

I love all animals. Siamese are great companions if you don't mind sharing your home with extremely active, and talkative, kitties. Put the breakables away! LOL
