I have a 22 month old and the TV is never on (we have one in the basement). We play and play! Before I was a mom I watched maybe one hour of TV a week, so my little guy was born into a house that doesn't watch TV!!

I believe that every mom is capable of making what she feels is the best decision for her child. If i do turn on the TV for him it won't be until after he's two because there have been studies that link TV viewing with ADD.

The American Academy of Pediatrics say, "Pediatricians should urge parents to avoid television viewing for children under the age of 2 years. Although certain television programs may be promoted to this age group, research on early brain development shows that babies and toddlers have a critical need for direct interactions with parents and other significant caregivers (eg, child care providers) for healthy brain growth and the development of appropriate social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Therefore, exposing such young children to television programs should be discouraged."

Hooray! We are spirit sisters!

I removed mine from the living room and put it in my room instead. There are only three rooms in my house so that's where it went. My 3 year old and I never watch it anymore and our relationship has become even better. We talk better, listen to each other more, and I am more involved in his play time. We never watched much, just animal documentaries and play school, but even the removal of just this stuff has had a positive effect.
I still let him watch his favourite movies if he is ill, and I still get things like Cirque du Soleil shows and other documentaries for him, but other than that - nothing!

Isn't it great?

My daughter got an hour a day IF she earned television time. Television in our home as well as video games, videos were privliges that had to be earned by her behaving. She was limited to one hour in the evening and no more than 6 hours on weekends, we stressed reading and using her imagination as forms of entertainment rather than vegetating in front of a box.

My daughter is 30 months and she just really watchs tv in the morning before breakfast and at night before bed, I don't see a problem with that since watching that has taught her alot like speaking in spanish, she can count to ten she knows most of her colors, and can say alot of little phrases. My husband and I don't know a word of spanish. I don't think that it has done anything to her attention span, or being focused

We have a TV but I really monitor how much they watch. They're in high school with lots of activities and homework. I've limited TV since they were toddlers.

Our limit is 1 hour per day, they can decide how they want to split it up.

The tv is always on around here, but that doesn't necessarily mean anyone's watching it.
