My kitten comes running any time any door is open. I am even talking the refrirator.
If I open he refriarator he jumps in.{ He gets no food from the frig.He eats dry food} If the front or back door is opened he tries to run through.
Luckily I have a front and back enclosed porch. But still he has gotten out 3 times. I tried squiting him when he gets near the door but it doesn't help and he is very fast. I want him to stay inside, I don't want an outside cat. He has a freind ,who doesn't run out ,So hes not lonely.

5 Months is still very young, keep with the squirting, he will finally get the message. A swat with a loosely rolled up newspaper is good too if he is close to you, like with the refridgerator. Makes noise but won't hurt him. Training takes time and unfortunately he has lots of it. Keep at it!

Keep up the squirting. Set him up with a window he can look out (preferably one you can open with a screen so he can get fresh air), and maybe grow him a small pot of wheatgrass to chew on. If he has a little bit of the outside indoors, it may curb his need to go outside. It did with my cat.

It would take some time and lots of patience but continue spraying him with water, even better soak him with the garden hose it might take 2 or 3 times but he will learn.
