You don't need to backup certain programs as long as you have the original CD laying around your house. I think the best way to start over from scratch is to backup all the files you have created, (e.g. all of your own word documents, any photos, etc.) Also if you use IE and Outlook make sure that you backup your IE favorites directory and export a .pst file from Outlook which contains all of your emails. Now once you format and put Windows back on your machine and reinstall Office, Paintshop, etc from the original CDs. Hope that helps.
