This is definitely for attention. Dogs are just like kids. They will do anything to get attention even if its something they know they shouldn't do. My dog will do this. Even when it seems like you have been spending tons of time with them. Its hard to tell how they feel.

I don't think there is really one answer to that, without knowing more about your dog and the situation.

It could be any of the following:

-The dog might have a urinary tract infection

-It could be a marking behavior - trying to mark territory and be the alpha dog over the other

-The dog could have separation anxiety - were you gone for a long time, or longer than usual

-Was the dog not walked/let out at the same time as its normal routine?

You might want to keep the dogs to a more confined area until you can narrow down which dog was the culprit.

Attention. The dog is trying to get your attention. Have you been busy lately? Or not been able to pay as much attention? Do you let one dog sleep with you and not the other? Maybe it is jealous. Do you pay attention to one more than the other? (This happened with my older dog, and my brand new carpet on the stairs!)

The only time my dog has done that was when he was sick and just couldn't make it outside. Sounds like your's might have a anxiety issue though.
