A friend recently shot a wood duck, with a banded leg. He has tried to report it, at 1-800-327-BAND. They say it's not their band, and couldn't help. It says whitetail enterprises, and has a number 1-249-069-9951

Hi

Wow well first every state has bird banding programs and sometimes many groups in each state....

Odd the number to call on the band is not ID th band..

I would call fish and Game,Your local DNR will not likely have any clue but you can ask..

Sometimes game wardens will know if they have had this come up before.

Also ducks unlimited is a good place for this info as well....

Here are some links to help you
What they want is the number not the bird.. for the records

if you are near Tennesee

US Geological Survey links ( good about email)

Thats about it.. without knowing your state

Thanks for going to this trouble to report it.. every bit of data is needed for good conservation..

oh in case you were wondering... You are not in trouble for shooting a banded bird.... a lot of folks think that,, wanted to let you know you are not.

Good Luck!

wood ducks are a game bird first of all, and secondly all bands placed on any fish and game must be done lawfully, so therefore if its banded and was released than a legitamte organization did it try the number, if that doen't work try the DNR or call your local ducks unlimited chapter they love to take care of things like this. Either way congrats on the band and happy hunting

If it was banded , his buttt may be in a sling. Last I heard Wood Ducks were not a game bird.

I would take the bird to fish and game. They should know or at least know what to do next.
