My breeder actually didn't like the looks of her dog's ears and redid them when the dog was 2 years old. This dog's ear had already been standing. The sooner you get them done the better...the younger the dog, the faster they heal and the cartilage is more malleable. Make sure you have them done with a vet or at least a vet's supervision. The dog's don't feel anything as they are put under anaesthetic for the procedure. The ears do heal very quickly. The only problem that you may have is getting the ears to stand. In an older pup the cartilage may have already taken shape and cannot be reshaped. Getting the ears to stand properly can take months of training with a rack. In my case I used tampons...worked great. I suggest you check with your breeder and or vet regarding your dog's cartilage and whether they think the ear could be made to stand. If it can't, let them be.

What size crop did you get? the longer the crop the longer it takes to stand (long show crop can take up to a year) shorter crops less. did you get them cropped right in the 8wk-12wk mark? also while they are tapped its helpful to make strange noises, dog whistles even help, this perks there ears while there tapped up and strengthens the muscle. i would defiantly consult your vet. When I got Akashas ears done i did tons of research and i found that you can buy certain vitamins that strengthens there cartilage, had a few down falls (which was why i didn't use it) while the ears are tapped they need to stay dry, any wetness can ruin the process. Also dont leave them untapped for a long period such as 3hrs, every time you go that long without tape you add another week. Some dobermans ears just wont stand, my friend had theres done, and they didn't stand but the vet went back and re did the surgery, its standing now. but at a slight slant. good luck!!! did you do research on the local clinic in your area? the really good ones will make appointments with you for re-tape sessions

NO NO NO They have to be done at 7-10 weeks. It is cruel to do that anyway. No vet will do it at the age of 10 months and if they do, they don't give a damn about the dog. That is too old.

No, the ears must be cropped by the time the puppy is 11 - 12 weeks old, preferably earlier.

you can but the ears take longer to heal. Cropping of the ears is done to show dogs, some countries like Briton will not do tails or ears unless the dog is show en.

You may want to read this before considering it. As much as I like the looks od Dobermans with cropped ears, I couldn't have it done to one.

I suggest doing a google search on cropping dobermans ears.

Then I suggest getting your head examined-that is one of the cruelest things you can do to a dog. It messes with thier hearing, it hurts and is downright cruel.

I'm not sure but i think after 3 months that it can't be done. I would check with the vet.

Would you like someone to "crop" off part of YOUR ears?

This is mutilation and serves no purpose. Why would you want to deform your dogs ears? This is a sick practice, and I sure hope you won't do it.

No. It won't work. They must be done before 12 weeks old. Otherwise the ears won't "learn" to stand on their own.
