Have you checked with different insurance companies? Check the laws in your state and see if there is an actual ban on certain breeds (regarding insurance) or not. If not, it's probably just a company policy and you'll find one somewhere with a better policy. I don't see why it would affect fire insurance. I could see home insurance in general (they consider some breeds more likely to bite - resulting in a homeowners insurance claim)... but I've never heard of a pit bull starting a fire. Hmmm.... Good luck. Perhaps call or email the aspca (www.aspca.org) and ask for advice pertaining to your area. Hope you're able to keep your pup!

Why wouldn't you be able to have fire insurance? That has nothing to do with dogs. If you're talking about an insurance company that's refusing to sell policies to people because of a certain breed of dog they own, report the company to your state's attorney general. Discriminating against people with pits, shepherds, dobs, rotts, etc, is highly illegal. We had that problem here in Michigan and our attorney general had to threaten the insurance companies with lawsuits if they didn't knock it off.
Don't feel bad for getting a pit, either. I'm sure you know that some people are just highly ignorant when it comes to dogs. Pits are vicious....mmhmm....I've seen some vicious labs in my time, too, mates. It has to do with breeder and raising.
The first person's idea isn't too bad, actually. We're not supposed to have any "vicious breeds" *rolling eyes* where we live, but we have some neighbors who just adopted a pit....they just told management he's a "staffordshire terrior mix"....which is true since pits are a cross between staffs and bulldogs, lol.

Fire insurance? I've heard of insurance agencies not issuing LIABILITY insurance because of a Pit, but never Fire insurance. I never knew that Pit Bulls were hidden pyromaniacs! LOL
Strange...............
I personally would tell the insurance company that I had a mutt for a dog. I didn't know it was a Pit Bull.

Oh! I am so sorry, pitt's have really gotten a bad rap, I had one, he lived to be 15 years old, born on Christmas Day. He had a huge head and as a puppy when he would try to run his little back feet would come up off the ground! I never could get him to NOT chew on rocks and he loved to pull up my irrigation lines in my orchards, pull them to his dog house and sit on them and wait for me to come home, like he saved me from some evil. So finally one night after trying everything else I left him in the orchards, they came on twice during the night, needless to say he NEVER pulled the lines up again, but out of revenge he would "do his duty" right on top of the lines every chance he got. I have so many great memories of my Buller, he never bit, attacked, or did any of the things that pitt's that are 'trained to fight' do, people ruined the breed! I have never heard of such a thing as an insurance company declining because of this?? Have you tried other companies?? I am so sorry, there are rescue organizations, just get on the web and type in Pitt Bull / or Pitt Bull Rescues, I hope that you find the little one a GOOD home and not someone looking for their 'next fighter' so please be watchfull!! Your puppy deserves a happy home, and I'm sorry that you are going to miss out on some of the funniest memories you could imagine. My husband, who was a firefighter for many years and has background on insurance's from fire inspections would like to help you, so please write to me through my email address, ok? And after my husband stops bouncing off the walls, we would be more than happy to help you. What state do you live in? And it would help to know the insurance co. that declined you as well.

Have you actually checked with your insurance company. I have a pit bull as well. I have insurance.
It sounds like you may be listening to the score of well-meaning friends who actually know nothing of pit bulls but have a lot of theories.
I have many of those people in my family and friend circles.
Do the research, call your insurance company. Also, find out the technical name of your dog, mine is American Stafford Bull Terrier, and my insurance company had no problem with giving me insurance-I did not say I have a pit bull. Too many people have preconceived notions about pit bulls.

Pit bulls are an extremely candy and affectionate breed. The terrible thoughts you pay attention are a blend of undesirable proprietors and media spins. case in point as quickly as we the place traveling via seatle they have been reporting on a "vicious" pitbull attack on a baby. And each and every of the top lines made it look like the pit had only vicously attacked out of nowhere. yet once you rather watched the tale and the interviews what surpassed off replace into an proprietor tied his canines to a placed up and went to the bathing room(not sensible proprietor) the three women the place on the tire swing linked the placed up and admitted that whilst swinging the hit the tied up canines 2 cases with the tire swing and on the 0.33 he grew to become and bit between the girls legs then enable go. of course this transformation into provoked and brought about via the girls as nicely as a neglagant proprietor. in case you get a pit and practice and socialize it, that's going to be a great canines. bear in mind nevertheless they may well be obdurate, and have a severe preypersistent like all terrior so practise and socialization is amazingly improtant. solid success.

If you have children, I think the answer is easy. Get the fire insurance so IF you do have ANOTHER house fire, you won't be in debt and uninsured without a roof over your kids head. Better be safe and sorry with insurance, then out in the cold with a pitt bull.

I don't know if I would keep him and leave my home uninsured. I think the welfare of your children and yourself are more important. I never heard of not getting home insurance because of the type of dog you have. My son has a pit bull and has had her for 5 years, he has always had home insurance, I would check deeper into that if I were you.

you can't have fire insurance while owning a Pit Bull??? that's ridiculous. then... get a different house insurance that covers natural calamities and hazzards. the Pit Bull is a life saver, and never backs down from a fight... even when facing other meaner beasts (according to my uncle who owns 2 Pit Bulls).
maybe the insurance company misunderstood you, they must've thought you had a "pet bull". :)
