I said and showed my 95cents and the person started pumping the gas and it was taking way to long so i got out and said STOP,what are you doing? He said you said $10,i said no i showed you my change and told you i only have 95 cents, well it tured out to be like $3.41 when i stopped him.He said give me your licence,i said no,we argued well i finally gave it to him to hold till i show up with $2 something(close to $3).Can he do that by law, take a mans licence when it was his screw up? He's probably in his 70's and don't even remember. Thanks

no..he should have taken a photo copy of your license that way if you did not come back they had your information to issue the warrant and suspend your license. But they should not have taken the actual license!

I have worked at gas stations and I can tell you that they cannot take your license. However, they do have the right to write down your plate number and get the cops after you if don't pay for the gas you got. If you did not pump the gas, then you should not be responsible to pay the difference if their employee screwed up. At the same time, you should not allow anyone else to pump your gas for you. I thought full service was gone. Hard to believe stations are still doing it. Oil companies are profiting enormously so a couple bucks is nothing. Thorntons Oil company doesn't provide full service at the pump and during a year of working there I noticed they lost many hundreds of dollars when people pumped and drove off without paying. It's not your fault that the gas station doesn't know how to operate their business properly in order to cut loss.

Yes that is what gas stations do if you get gas and can't pay.

There other option is to call the police and have you charged with theft. Since you took services you could not pay for.

And they are not "taking" it, they are holding it till you come back with the money, I am sure they would be glad to hold your camera or your lap top comptuer or something of value till you returned.

Who on earth only has 95 cents for gas? I believe he can do that, if he works at the gas station. You would have to return with the money you owe.

Exactly how far can one get on 95 cents worth of gas? 10 miles at best? Anyway, you owe him the money. It's called unjust enrichment.

Buddy. You're the only person I ever heard of that buys gasoline in fractions. Ninety-five cents worth of gas? Are you kidding?

One...yeah he can take your license. If you give it to him. Of course its better to get the $3 to him versus the larceny charge. Who do you think the cops are gonna believe huh? Ninety five cents worth of gas. Christ...thats what you get when you wring out the hose.

You probably could have asked to speak to his manager or boss to resolve it. It is his word against yours, but the customer is always right. Next time, when you only have .95 cents, you should probably pump your own gas!

No, and if you get stopped now, you can be charged with driving without a license. At todays prices tho, what made you even think to stop and get gas if you had no money?

I guess so or he could have called the police when you took off and said you didn't pay for the gas and that would not be good!
