Well that's how we connected Darling. Why have you been so distant lately. Email me. I have been watching you and missing you.

NO - for a number of reasons.

1). even the best writer in the world cannot accurately describe his/her personality in a few short paragraphs. (I'm a publshed author and even I can't manage that)

2). a lot of people in the personals aren't really single, there are a lot of folks, both male and female, who are just looking to cheat on their partner.

3). So, between the inadequate information in the profiles and the many liars and cheaters, it's hard to find a decent person online. Even if, by some miracle, you find a person who is genuinely single who is compatable with you, you might reject them out of hand based on some superficial reason (which you would NEVER use to reject a person you met in the real world).

Beyond those general problems, there are some gender-specific issues here, both related to the fact that there are a lot more men than women looking for love online.

FOR WOMEN: Women get a lot of responses, but many of them are from perverts. Even when you exclude the sickos, there are so many replies that you will not be able to give every guy a fair chance, and you will end up missing out on a lot of great guys who don't have eye catching profiles, and dating a lot of knuckleheads with pretty web pages.

FOR MEN: Men get very few responses, and most of the emails they send out get ignored (for reasons that I explained above) - so, internet dating can be very frustrating, and is ultimately useless for most men.

Bottom line, the internet is a really bad way to find a romantic partner.

Absolutely, but you have to know what you're looking for and how to look. I recommend Dr. Phil's book Love Smart, it's very helpful in getting you to focus on really what you're looking for.

You have to be honest. If you're looking to get married and have kids in the next 3 years, say that. You might turn some people off, but it wouldn't have worked with those guys anyway. If you're not willing to travel, don't look or waste your time on some hot guy that lives 500 miles away. Also, I recommend talking on the phone and meeting in person shortly after you make a connection.

In some rare occasions they do but for the most part they are a waste of time. I have engaged in a few on line personals and have had no luck. I have found that it is better to meet someone face to face first, the conversations flow easier as well as if there is chemistry then it is immediately felt. Rather than learning about someone through an on line message they left. Always better to date face to face, that's just my opinion.

I believe they do. I'm currently living with (2 years now) and just got engaged in August to a man I met online and we will be married within the next year or two. So for us, YES personals worked.

But you have to kiss a lot of frogs to maybe find the right one.
It sucks, is dangers - you're dealing with people already with problems or just playboys. But who knows - I really don't know any successful story. Just commercial for do the business and get your money. No security and guarantee.

I've met some true freaks on Yahoo Personals. But then, I've met some good people on there too. Ones I wouldn't have met any other way

sometimes ... you need to weed through them ... keep this in mind .. if it sounds to good to be true it probably is ... most guys lie to get a girl to answer them (and vice versa) ... read a few answer a few but keep an open mind and seek out the ones that seem to be sincere.
