I go running every morning and soda usually helps boost my energy but I noticed it actually does make me thirstier. I tested with just drinking a glass of water and I lasted a little longer. If I drink too much of anything my side will start hurting while jogging.

Anyone want to share some sort of method they use for a boost of energy for a workout?

Stick to water. It's the best thing to drink before and during a workout.

Make sure you eat lightly before and after you exercise to increase your energy throughout the day... and the activity.

Depending on the intensity of the workout, you may need to recover your salts after your workout. A power drink or simply fruit juice with a pinch of salt will do the trick.

Water is always the best for your body. However if you are truly looking for a boost of energy, I would suggest stopping into a GNC or a Vitamin World. There are several energy/fat burners that give you a burst of energy and will totally help with the pain in the side. I use hydroxycut and my runs are great. But you will need to drink pleanty of water thoughout the day because you don't want to get dehydrated. The soda makes you thirstier because of the dehydrating effect of soda. It actually dehydrates you over time.

The honest best thing to do is drink a bunch of water at night. Get up early, run a few miles or 30 minutes, then when you are finished drink some water and eat. In the long run it is much healthier and if you are wanting to loose weight you will faster and safer. That is way the Army does it. I dropped 50 pounds in 6 months doing the routine. I feel better and look better. It will suck the first few weeks, but if you can get yourself on that routine, you will be happy with the results.

There are many good energy drinks out there that fuel me when I exercise. Personally, the best I've found is a smoothie with fresh fruit, yogurt, and sometimes some chocolate (which contains caffeine) or peanut butter. But since you have trouble drinking very much, you should go to your local GMC or even a CVS or Walgreens type store and browse the energy drinks. The best one I've found is Redline, four hours of pure, trembling, energy. And it's in a small bottle! Good luck!

water is best. A sports drink is okay. You could try some energy goo - that is the real name. It is carbohydrates in a gel. Not very nice but you can mix it with water too. A lot of people swear by it. I sometimes eat some gummy bears when I am feeling a lag while working out hard.

Those energy drinks out there help a lot and gatorade. It's very important to keep electrolytes in your body when you're running. Of course, water when you are done.

Don't ingest anything within 1 hr of a run, other than a little sqeeze tube of honey, glucose, or cane syrup.

You can sip water from a bottle, not gulping but sipping to wet your mouth.
