Why does my cat poop in the littler box and then take the poop out of the litter and place it on the carpet infront of the box? I know she takes it out, and doesn't just poop on the floor, because their is litter on the poop. I empty the box once every few days... there doesn't seem to be blood or anything out of the ordinary in her stool. She is only a year and a half old and has been doing this for about 8 months... I love my cat alot, but this is a very frustraiting problem for me. Why does she do it, and how can i make her stop?

She is not flinging or kicking it out... I keep her box in a cabinet underneath my bathroom sink. She opens the door to go inside but its completly sheltered. I think she carries it out in her mouth.

Get a litter box w/ a lid and a swinging door. She's probably digging too hard and flinging it out when she tries to bury it.

It could be that the litter box is too small or the edges are too low and while burying the poop, she's kicking it out.
There are covered litter boxes with high edges that run about $20 that solved the problem for me.
You should also try scooping daily. Imagine only being able to flush the toilet every few days - ewwwww. And a cat's sense of smell is way more acute than ours.
Good luck.

I might know what is going on- she feels too confined in the cabinet space to relax and poo, but being a cat, she feels the need to cover her poo. Watch her- she is probably scooping litter onto the floor, then pooping in it and scraping the litter over the poo- which would result in litter covered poopers that were never in the litter box. Try moving the box and see if that fixes the problem. At least then you will know. Also- scoop daily, she may be trying to drop you a scooping hint. Some cats require a pristine toilet.

Could be that the pooh isn't releasing into the box... just hangs there until she steps out, then falls off.
Also, assuming you don't have a dog that could be taking the pooh out of the box? (That's how it happens at my house) :)
And definitely need to scoop it every day. Some cats are VERY finicky about their box being kept clean. Box could also be too small so she walks in, poops and doesnt realize her butt is hanging over the edge. I had a cat that did that and the problem was solved by getting a "jumbo" cat box.

Just spread news paper on the floor around the box. You can also hit her on the nose to show that you are displeased. But nothing is really wrong with her. Cats are just different. They are strange. I have a cat i always make sure and keep his bowl full. But he will not eat, no matter how much food is in the bowl, unless i throw some fresh ones on top.
I do not know why he does that. Sometimes i have to stand up and watch him eat because he won't eat if i am not standing there.

Once every few days is not enough to clean her box. Cats are very hypersensitive to smell and want the box to be clean. So try that first. Also some cats develop the peculiarity of wanting one box for poop and one for urine so another box is also in order.
Remember the litterbox rule: # of cats + 1.

Clean her box, EVERYDAY. I know that is a tall order, but that could help. Also, get one of those litter boxes that has the lid, where she has to go through a little hole to get to the litter box. This will make it more difficult to pull her poop out.
Cats are just strange animals and sometimes they do strange things to get attention.
Good Luck

She might be mad at you because some cats if they are mad at you then they will do things that are wierd and they just do it because they are trying to piss you off. One thing you could try is watching her from a far and if you see her do that spray her with water or you could even try holding her in the litter box and wait till she goes to the bathroom and then watch her walk out and let her know that you are sick of her doing that. If nothing like that works then i dont know what to tell you.

I'm not a vet but I own two cats and they both have there own litter box and I clean them every day. When she covers up her poop she may be knocking some out from before. You might want to try to clean it every day, this may resolve your problem.

Well, once every few days is not nearly often enough. you need to scoop the box at least once a day. Some cats are very picky about their toilet and need it cleaned more often. She may just be telling you, "HEY, THERE'S TOO MUCH CRAP IN MY TOILET!" You might try that for a while and see if it helps.
