No age limit. In order to claim the child you will have to apply for and obtain a social security number. Most hospitals fill out a birth certificate and the bottom of it has a form that goes to SS for a number as a matter of course. You might check with wherever your child was born and see if this was done. If not you have to take a copy of the child's birth certificate to social security and apply for a social security number. The child under age 16 gets you the "child tax credit" and if your income is under a certain limit you will also be getting "earned income credit" when you file your tax return.

she was born in 2006 therefore she can be claimed...even a child who is born and dies in any given tax year can be claimed for the entire year...so long as they were considered living at birth even if for only a moment ...so on the dependent line where it askes how many months did the child live with you then you may say 12 legally you do not have to count only the number of months old it is.....

The child must have been born. So if the child is born december 31st at the end of the tax year you can claim the child as having lived in your home all year. If your unsure, ask the IRS.

If you have cutody of the child or have a legal agreement to alternate claiming them on taxes, you can claim them from birth, as long as they have a social security number, and continue up though the graduate college, unless they decide to claim independant so they can get student loans/aid. There is a specific form of you are a non custodial parent that must be signed and turned in with the return.

No, that's only if the child is not yours by blood.
You can claim a child born on Dec 31 at 11:59pm on that year's tax return. The government knows that child was a dependant from conception.
