weather changes, indoor heat, chlorine from swimming pools, psoriasis, ecsema..you name there out there. Lots of over the counter creams help, but you doctor may be able to prescribe something that can help as well.

Dry skin
Definition:
Dry skin is most common in your lower legs, arms, flanks (sides of the abdomen), and thighs. The symptoms most often associated with dry skin include:
Scaling
Itching
Cracks in the skin
Alternative Names:
Skin - dry; Winter itch
Common Causes:
Dry skin is common. It happens more often in the winter when cold air outside and heated air inside cause low humidity. Forced-air furnaces make skin even drier.
The skin loses moisture and may crack and peel, or become irritated and inflamed. Bathing too frequently, especially with harsh soaps, may contribute to dry skin. Eczema may cause dry skin.

Many women complain of dry skin or changes in their skin during perimenopause or menopause. Dry skin can also be attributed to a decrease in all the reproductive hormones and in collagen production. As the hormones diminish, they are less available to stimulate the oil glands in the skin, resulting in dry skin and wrinkles. Deficiencies in essential fatty acids and nutrients in the diet can be a major cause of skin conditions as well

Dry, itchy skin can be due to fungal infections. Is it scaly? or it can be due to too much cold! if it is due to fungal infections, it is important that you be seen by the dermatologist. Usually KOH or potassium hydroxide smear is done to determine the presence of spores or hyphae in the microscope! Treatment usually last for several months.
