I am 20 years old I had been in pain for a couple of months so I decided to go see my doctor and see why my breast were hurting so much. He recommended that I do a bilateral breast ultrasound so I did the results just came in and I went to the doctor. They found no large masses but they did see that I have two swollen Lymph nodes one in each breast(one is 26mm the other 21mm) my doctor has now recommended that I get a biopsy but her partner has recommended I do a MRI of my breast. I am still having sharp stabbing pains all the time in my breasts. If some one could please answer and help me understand if this can lead to cancer, if it could be cancer or if I am just panicing?
Thank you so much for anyone who answers I am so worried
God Bless you all

Both doctor reccommendations are good ideas. A swollen lymph node that does not reduce in size is an indicator that something is wrong. Your doctors, though reccommending different strategies are trying to rule out the possible causes for the swollen nodes. Of course, everyone is going to worry about it being cancer and it could be. In my experience with cancer (and I have already survived 2 different and unrelated types) the biopsy is going to be the fastest way to get your answers. No matter what you choose to do, be glad that that you are aware of the problem, and don't worry about what is wrong until you have something worth worrying about. I know you think that's impossible, but make yourself busy, fill your time with productive work. Worrying, when you're not sure what to be worried about won't help solve anything, and you'll worry yourself right into more problems.
Best of luck to you. If it is cancer, there is a lot that can be done about it. Ask lots of questions. Don't assume the doctor will tell you everything or all of your options, and if you are really confused or worried about something don't be afraid to say something to your doctor.

First off, yes there are lymph nodes in the breasts, has the doctor checked the axilla under your arms as well? It could be that you have some sort of infection or clogging going on, have you been sick at all like cold, flu? Next, what kind of bra do you wear? Wear cotton, no underwires. Although there is debate about whether or not they can cause cancer and problems, we do know that the pressure can clog lymph nodes. It's rather odd you have 1 node in each breast swollen though, is he sure they are not cysts? what about fibrocystic breast disease? what about clogged milk ducts? I would have the MRI first, then get the results and do the biopsy, I think you'd need a biopsy for each one though. Do you have any other body swellings? I'm wondering if it's some infection or clogging. If it is definitely lymph nodes or fibrocystic breasts you could try manual lymph drainage, that's where a specially trained lymphedema therapist works the nodes to break up fibrosis and move fluid out of the area, and yes they do work on the breasts and the nodes in the chest and underarm.
I wouldn't panic, just wait for the results.

If you have a choice have the MRI first. Then biopsy if indicated. Stop worrying know that cancer in your 20s is very rare. My mother is 80 and for 2 years straight now we have had to have follow up mammograms once because there was a "shadow" on the xray film. You may have cystic breasts the swelling may lessen during certain times of your monthly cycle. Caffeine intake plays a big roll as well. Seems coffee, tea, sodas and chocolate are not good for breasts. Two swollen lymph nodes indicate most often an infection is present if you have a capillary that is clogged somewhere this can cause a cyst, pain and swelling. Take Tylenol and alternate with Motrin for pain and follow up with your caregivers.

I had the same thing back in July/August. I had the biopsy and MRI. No cancer, but I still had to have the damn nodes removed. Now I'm fine. I had breast cancer 7 years ago, so my doctors were very concerned. (A week after mine was taken out, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.) Just keep on the doctors to figure out what it is and have them remove the nodes--it could take care of the pain.

HI! I'd do both tests if I were in your shoes. I was diagnosed with cancer, which spread to my lymph nodes. They were taken out. I have had MRI/Pet scan, bone scan and CT scan, as well as biopsy. My nodes weren't swollen, but one was found positive for cancer. I would rather take ALL necessary meausures. It will ease your mind. Good Luck to you. Take-Care. Don't forget...ask your Dr.s ?'s!

High doubt you have breast cancer. At the very least you most likely have a cyst, which is causing one of your lymph nodes under your arm to swell. See your gynecologist...it's most likely related to your hormones.

It could be fibrocystic breast disease. Not cancerous, but very very painful. Lumps come, and go like that too.
I have it, and the only thing that mellows out the pain is vitamin e. They recommend 400 iu, but I take 800, and never feel any pain when I do.
Good luck
