I would say the concept of a soul is pre civilization. Neanderthal graves show they buried their dead with flowers and personal possessions - it could be surmised that showed belief in an afterlife. Cro-Magnon had shamanic cave drawings that could be interpreted in belief in spirits. Most primitive societies have a belief in souls and afterlives of some sort.

I don't know how you can say that about the bible because it is the copy of the original scrolls. So you are saying that the scrolls are like tom sawyer? It is not a concept. Guess what? You are a living soul because that is what is says in Genesis. Not you have But it Say's you ARE! So the soul has been around a very long time since Adam and Eve. Get over it.

Human recognition of the soul predates any civilization and stems far back into prehistoric times, near our earliest history.

Probably the Sumerians, who also invented religion 8,000 years ago, and on which all present religions are based.
They certainly already had extremely well developed imaginations.
