I have a 10 month old and 9 month old yorkie. We put them in a "pet taxi" crate at night and cover it with a blanket. That way it is totally dark and they cannot see anything. We have never had a problem with them barking. They do wake up and start to wine if they hear us in the morning though. After we let them outside to go, they go back to sleep. Maybe try that, it has worked great for us.

I think your dog is probably barking because he's lonely and wants your company. I have a 1 yr old Yorkie but the only time he barks is when I'm not paying him enough attention. He's crated in the daytime when we're at work and he has another dog in the house to keep him company, somewhat. This may sound ridiculous but at night we keep him in his carrier on a night table beside the bed. That way he's at least close to us and not on the bed getting rolled on. I feel badly being away from him for so long in the daytime. Good Luck.

I had this problem with a little dog. Your yorkie needs more to do during the day so that he is nice and tired at night. Make sure that he is getting plenty of walks, and make sure that he doesn't get to sleep too much during the day. For the first few days it might help to keep him awake all the time - every time you see him settle down you should wake him again. It only takes a few days to re-train your dog to get his main sleep at night. Hope this helps.
