I haven't but my mother has. Here's some super duper info on it.
Non-surgical solution for relieving lower back pain.
Developed by a group of NASA and medical engineers, the DRX9000™ is a revolutionary solution to relieving lower back pain. Lower back pain is the number one reason why people visit doctors and is usually the result of herniated, or “bulging,” discs, and disc degeneration, or the drying out and cracking of vertebrae. The DRX9000™ relieves such pain by gently applying negative forces to relieve pressure on the spine. Patients describe this feeling as a gentle pulling of the spine. With DRX9000™ technology, disc space is enlarged, herniation is reduced, and outer ligaments are strengthened. Treatment usually consists of daily sessions lasting 30-45 minutes for 4-6 weeks. The Spine & Injury Center of Fredericksburg is one of the very few clinics in Virginia that offer this remarkable technology to its patients.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are my chances for success?
The American Journal of Pain Management reports that clinical studies have proven an 86% success rate for patients suffering from herniated discs.
Does the treatment offer permanent relief?
Treatments offer most patients long lasting relief, but permanent relief cannot be guaranteed in all situations. In some circumstances, Dr. Reno may advise patients to have follow-up treatments to ensure the most relief of their pain.
Does insurance cover the cost?
Whether or not insurance covers the cost of therapy depends on the type of insurance and the specific costs associated with each treatment. We are more than happy to verify any insurance plans you may have and give you an estimate as to the costs of treatment beforehand.
If I don’t have insurance, are payment plans available?
Of course—we offer several flexible payment plans for every patient’s needs.
How exactly does the DRX9000 work?
A chest and shoulder harness is fastened around the patient by one of Dr. Reno’s technicians. The table of the machine is raised to its vertical position and the patient stands on the Hi-Lo System, then slowly reclines back to the supine position. The patient’s weight, which indicates the amount of pressure for his or her treatment, is calculated and stored in the system’s computer. A knee rest is placed under the patient’s knees in order to eliminate pelvic rotation. The lower lumbar belt and pelvic harness mold to the iliac crest. An air pump, located below the pelvic harness, keeps the lordadic curve intact. An air bladder balances the angle of pull, which changes according to the specific level of treatment. Since the pull is generated along a logarithmic curve, no muscle spasms occur and decompression of the targeted lumbar disc is able to take place.
How does decompression work?
Decompression creates vacuum-like suction that reverses the high pressure inside the disc and moves the bulging or herniated material back into the disc, thus relieving the pain.
Imagine holding a jelly donut. When you squeeze the donut, the side breaks open and some of the jelly oozes out. This is very similar to what happens with a herniated disc. Stress causes a tear in the disc and some of the “jelly” oozes out. Now, if you want to get the jelly back inside, how could you do it? Imagine how a syringe works. When you put a syringe in water and pull up the plunger, it creates a negative pressure that sucks the water into the syringe. Thus, the answer lies in negative pressure. The DRX9000 ™ creates negative intradiscal pressure that sucks the herniated material back into the disc and allows it to heal naturally. The DRX9000 ™ isolates the herniated disc and slowly tractions the area of the spine. The advanced technology of the machine communicates with the body seventeen times per second, making the DRX9000 ™ break-through technology. Regular traction does not work because if your body senses the pull of traction, it will react by going into spasm. Thus, by communicating with your body so often, the DRX9000 ™ is able to adjust the amount of traction according to the reaction of your body. It negates any spasm and allows the machine to create the negative pressure that sucks the disc material back into the disc. Water and other disc nutrients are also drawn into the disc to aid in healing.
