There are two ways, one thru the death records at the county courthouse, or call all the cemeteries in the area you know they are buried in. Oh a third way, is check with churches. Better yet go on the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) ancestor's site and they have them listed. You can find out if you have a general idea of their birthday, and where they lived.

If you know what town, city, municipality one passed to the other side in, you can probably get the obituary notice in the local newspaper, even if the date was years ago, like 20-50 years. If you can't perform this task alone, without assistance, visit your local library, and I'm about 89% sure someone there can help you. If you don't know the newspapers name, type in the city and it might give it to you, then type in the individuals name and see what might come up. If you know the approximate date, newspaper records should be available also, but some papers only keep them for a definite period of time, like 3 years, then delete them or put the facts on disc and give them to the local library - usually. Good luck.

I would think that cemeteries have offices, where records are kept. First, where did the person die.? What doctor pronounced the death? Go back, step by step, to the death, sickness, place, and you'll find where and how to start.
