I can fly to just about anywhere in the world, from the USA, for around $1200. Yet, it costs me close to $3000 to fly to Amman, Jordan and Cairo, Egypt. I have tried all airlines, all directions (including a 14 hour layover in Dubai----the cheapest route and not convenient). Why does it cost so much!!?

It could cost more to enter those countries or to land at those airports. It is a long distance and you are paying fuel costs in your ticket. You could just be looking on the wrong days.

Supply and demand... if they don't need to discount the airfare, they won't. Remember that airlines are for-profit businesses, not public transportation.

Have you tried using an ethnic travel agent? They usually have better deals not available to the public.
