You should not drink wine on Atkins at all. You should only be drinking pure, like shots or rum & diet coke. Wine is sugar, plain and simple. Atkins is not a calorie based diet, it's a lifestyle. Now, if you are down to your ideal weight and are ok to drink wine or eat a potato a week then pick whichever you would prefer. I personally am partial to Lambrusco which is a lovely red grape cultivated in Central Italy, mostly within the region of Emilia. Good quality Lambrusco is available in the United States.

There are four main DOC Lambruscos:

Lambrusco di Sorbara
Lambrusco Grasparossa di Catelvetro
Lambrusco Reggiano
Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce

A word of advice from someone who has lost over a hundred pounds in the last year...
DO NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL.

I know this sounds harsh - I am an avid wine enthusiast and a tequila fan... however, drinking alcohol is completely counter-productive for someone trying to lose weight.

Being that I don't believe in diets anyway (I believe that a lifestyle change that you can carry through for years is the only way to keep off the weight - trust me on this one...), why bother suffering through a diet if you aren't going to go the distance - i.e. give up the things that make you fat!

Don't fool yourself into the one glass a day thing. This would be fine IF you were at your goal weight and only interested in maintenance AND you were active enough to counteract all the carbs and sugars in alcohol. But until then, suck it up and stop drinking. No one around you will care - and you will notice a HUGE difference in how you lose weight.

Good Luck!

neither. Atkin's doesn't allow alcohol because its full of carbs.

You should try the G.I Diet. Much better for your health and allows red wine in moderation.

Your best choice might be a dry red wine like Cabernet.

Internet forums like lowcarbfriends.com and lowcarber.org are good sources of information, along with Yahoo Answers, because people discuss their first-person experiences in these forums. Wine has a low carbohydrate content so a moderate amount is fine. A glass of red wine is beneficial in preventing long term heart disease. A 120ml glass of red wine contains less than 1 gram of carbohydrate so go for it !!!

I didn't know there was a 'diet' wine.

Red - if you read the atkins book is the best.

good luck

Dry white metabolises into less sugar than red or other whites. Good luck - hope this helps.
