Basically carbon monoxide is a toxin to haemoglobin. It acts as a competitor for oxygen and binds to Haemoglobin causing a condition which is clinically known as asphyxiation. As more and more haemoglobin gets affected by carbonmonoxide, the oxygen content reaching the cells decreases and gradually the cells die. It is established that the brain cells cannot survive without oxygen for more than around 2 minutes. The loss of brain cells will result in the nullification of all metabolic activities. So if the AC in a car is found to be leaking and the car is completely closed then it may lead to death in the worst case. The precautions that can be taken are to service the vehicle periodically and in case any breathlessness is noticed when the AC is on, it should immediately be switched off and proper ventilation must be ensured.

corbonmonoxide is a highly poisonous gas. Heamoglobin present in Red blood cells of our body perform the job of carrying oxygen from lungs to various other parts. however interestingly heamoglobin attaches itself more easily to carbon monoxide as compared to oxygen. therefore in excess of carbon monoxide the heamoglobin is not able to carry oxygen but instead attracts carbon monoxide to itself forming carboxyheamoglobin. since the supply of oxygen stops it leads to death. carbon monoxide is a colouless and odourless gas so you wont even know whats happening till its too late. once carboxyhaemoglobin is formed you are unable to perform any thing due to lack of oxygen. this leads to death
