Seriously! I know that some may say that this question belongs in the Television section, but I put it in the Mental Health section, because I think these women have major mental health issues. First of all, what sort of person airs his/her dirty laundry on TV? Second, sometimes the guy being tested isn't even the father, so that means that the woman was sleeping around. In fact, I remember seeing a guest named Marisol who had over 10 guys tested, and none of them turned out to be her kid's father. What do you think is wrong with these women?

They are poor (can't afford dna testing) They are uneducated, which probably means they don't hold a job position important enough to embarass themselves on national tv.Their family is probably the same way, they have no shame and most likely learned it from their parents or family. Sleeping around is something they might even be proud of, and not knowing who the father is brings even more much-loved drama to the whole deal. Being on tv is a big deal for them, no matter how shameful the situation, and a way to get attention they don't recieve from their family or potential dads. It's a way for them to get sympathy on a national level. They get revenge on these men by bad-mouthing them in front of everyone whether they're the father or not.

what sort of person watches "The Maury Povich Show" to begin with?

Why would you even bother watching? Are you interested in hearing about people's dirty laundry? TV is merely a medium.

Reasons they might do it:
1. Money
2. Drama and attention
3. Vacation to where they film, all expenses paid
4. Vegence
5. Genuinely want to find the father (Paternity testing isn't cheap. It's easier for them to have a studio pay for it than pay for it themselves. Also it binds them into a contract for the testing. Without the show they can't contract someone at home to take a paternity test. taking a DNA test requires consent. People are more likely to consent on a television show.)

If there's a doubt who the father is there are larger matters at play.

Definately mental issues and ignorance. I once saw a white girl with a very dark-skinned baby testing her very white boyfriend. Both were shocked when he wasn't the father! Go figure. Even Maury was perplexed as to why she tested this guy.

I don't think any of them actually know how the female body works. They don't realize that there is only a small window of time per month in which they could have conceived. I'm pretty sure they just pick every guy they ever slept with, because they truly have no idea.

But even still...that is a lot of guys!

The kind of person who can't keep track of how many people they have slept with so they will know who the father of their child/children is!
