Hello fellow seeker. I am an atheist with an open mind, and I concur with your conclusion. Like a good friend of mine who was recently suspended would say, we are all agnostics really, because no one truly knows. I choose the label of atheist for myself because even though I conceed that I don't know for sure if he/she/it exists or not. I know he/she/it has done nothing to help countless innocents who are murdered or accidentally killed, or get horrible diseases, and so on and so on. So, for me it is better to think of there being no god, than one who is unwilling to help, and not interested in making itself known to everyone.

Steve I'll be your No# 1 fan. I couldnt agree with you more. I have been on here several times this month trying to ask people very simple question about God. All they do is dance around the fact that you really cant prove anything. They believe that all things that happen to them good or bad have somethong to do with a God. They simply cant believe that maybe there are other options out there for the cause and effect of various things that happen in this world. As far as they are concerned "the world is ending" what they fail to see is that,, The human spirit in itself has the desire and the strength to survive. I do believe that there is a powerful force that effects this earth. What it is or where it came from, I dont know and I'm willing to except that.I try to live my life non-judgemental of any religion or the people that serve in them.I think that faith can be a very powerful and moving force in a persons life and if thats what they need to be happy than so be it. It's when people preach to me that I will not be saved if I dont become one of the followers of THEIR religion(.Because they all believe that their's is the only way to salvation.) Or religions that have been slaughtering other human for 100's of years because they feel that they are fighting a holy war and that they are doing GODS will. People need to open their eyes and see whats really going on here on this earth and pull together before the cause and effect that we have had on this earth as well as eachother will be our demise and the destruction of our beautiful planet...however it got here.

No, all types of believers cannot and will not unite around that rather complex concept. Non-believers are, generally, incapable of understanding the faithful, the believers are generally not able to understand the non-believers.
For believers to have the concept of God reduced to an individual's belief system put God on equal footing as "Do I like broccoli?" That is unacceptable.

,Of course they cant agree that 'God and his existence ' just boils down to individual or group belief!
"Just look around you, at the birds and the pretty bees" or "I have actually seen the proof, check chapter xxx verse yyy in the bible, what more proof do you need"?
You of course are 100% correct!
I as an atheist will admit there is no 'proof' one way or the other of Gods existence, I just dont believe (its a simple as that to me)
I suppose I could dig out some ancient script to 'prove' this but then I would be just as pathetic as 'the nutters'!!

I see you are agnostic. I think people have to be willing to let go of being too left-brained or too-right brained in order to begin to be open to the possibility of God's existence. People who are more interested in being right or relying on their own efforts or those of people around them are not ready to find out if God exists. Such knowledge implies responsibility, because if God exists then we must have a purpose, a purpose different from the animals around us. Suddenly the law of the jungle isn't enough anymore. Until then, I reserve the right to believe as I believe, and to allow others the same until they are ready to admit there is something higher than just the thoughts of humankind. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

It is your conclusion that no one can be certain God exists. I, on the other hand, AM certain He exists. Further, it's not just MY belief: it's the belief of billions of people who have walked the earth before me and are living right now.
It's true that many people believing something to be true doesn't make it true. However, many of us DO have knowledge of Him, which is the thing that "turns you off immediately." By discounting our testimony, you rob yourself of what is the most profound truism that's ever existed: that there IS a God and He's waiting for you to come to Him.
So who is it that prevents you from seeing what we see? Is it US or is it YOU?
Peace.

The Exorcist was on last night.
Remember when that came out in theaters?
The little girl spits up pea soup and people are fainting in the aisles.
Her face is messed up, her head spins around and she levitates off the bed and everyone believes in demons and possession and all manner of evil.
Yet the next morning you get up and the sun's out warming your face. The birds and squirrels are gathering food. The trees are ablaze with their Autumn colors and it's a sight to behold. His Word says that joy cometh in the morning and that's certainly true this morning.
Funny how it's so easy to buy into a Hollywood fabrication and yet so hard to accept the witness of His glory.

Romans 1:18-22: " For God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are suppressing the truth in an unrighteous way, 19 because what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them. 20 For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable; 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him, but they became empty-headed in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened. 22 Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish"
I guess the fact that we exist, and the world around us, (which we can clearly see with our physical eyes) exists is proof enough of a Creator and whether or not you wish to appreciate and accept his Godship, is up to you...personally, I am very grateful to be alive and to live on this earth that God created for us and I am grateful to have the opportunity to speak about his awesome and wonderful works and to exclaim his sovereignty and to have a part in giving him the glory that he so rightly deserves. (Jehovah is his name to time indefinite!) It really has nothing to do with a belief system, but rather everything to do with reality...you exist because of his love and for no other reason. Look at yourself very closely...the great tools that your hands are, the way your mind can think and reason, your eyes and how they can see( and then all the things they see and how wonderful our senses can appreciate all the creation) even how we can feel bad for all the suffering and injustice being done on earth during this earthly reign of Satan. We were created in God's image, although we are physical and God is Spirit, we have the ability to think and feel compassion because God gave us that ability. He also gave us the ability to reason, to find truth... 1John5:20: "But we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us intellectual capacity that we may gain the knowledge of the true one. And we are in union with the true one, by means of his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and life everlasting."

The presence, or absence, of YOUR faith doesn't change a single thing about God's reality and existence.
By MY faith, I know, without a doubt, that God lives. I know that He loves me.
I also respect you and the actions/decisions you make of your own free will about this issue.
And, no, it's not an issue to unite around. Your question is merely another way that the deceiver/distractor attempts to confuse us. There is but one true God, and salvation of the eternal soul is thru His Son, Jesus. There is simply no way to "unite" this reality with the pursuit and worship of the many false gods (greed, lust, power, fame, allah, etc).

That's why I chose to pursue the Buddhist path. I'm disillusioned with theology and dogma and belief in deities-Buddhism offers purpose to human existence without emphasising the supernatural or God.

That's true for the most part. The knowlege I have of God is not scientifically provable, therefore cannot be true or untrue. But, it is still true to me. Other people take a different approach. They say God is not provable, therefore He is not real to them. But since they can't prove me wrong, and I cannot prove them wrong, we should all just agree to disagree, and not begrudge anyone their beliefs or lack thereof.
