I sort of like the ideas that Catholics have about keeping faith to themselves in terms of not being boastful about knowing the Holy Spirit and not wearing their religion on their sleeve. It's about solitude, praying alone, worshipping alone, having a personal relationship with God. I know Catholics have a bad rap for the way they treat women (and little boys at times). Why do you think that is? What's so bad about being Catholic?

There is nothing wrong with being Catholic. There are so many misconceptions about the Catholic Church that people have actually learned to hate Catholics based on lies.

You really should read the Scott Hahn conversion story:

He was, at one point in his life, very anti-Catholic and tried very hard to get Catholics to leave the church. The more he studied scripture, the more he was drawn to the Catholic church.

There is nothing "bad" about being Catholic. And women are not treated badly either. As for the bad publicity for the little boys that has been mistreated. Unfortunately this is true and very sad. There is no defense for this action. I pray that this problem will be dealt with properly and completely resolved. As for the religion, leaving out the good, the bad and the ugly, which has nothing to do with the actual religion, it is a good way of worship. I am happy with it. All religions are good and mean well. What is good for you may not be good for another. It depends on where your heart is. The main purpose is a close relationship with God. Once you have that, our Lord will handle the rest.

Having been raised as a Catholic, I can tell you why it didn't work for me. I needed something more. I could never feel God in a church. Religion was a chore and I was just going through the motions. The church to me seemed to be a set of rules to live by with nothing else. I followed the rules and still did not feel connection. I do think people turn to religion for a sense of spiritual community. Its part of forming the connection with God. I don't think I was looking for something boastful, just something that could help me connect to God. Also, Catholics in general feel a lot of guilt. I don't want to be a good person because I will feel bad if I'm not. I want to be a good person because it is right for me and it will make me a happier person.

I am a catholic and my faith is with catholicism and the holy spirit and I don't wear on my sleeve but it's in my heart, I was upset to hear about the bad reputation of the catholic faith because of what sick people who represented the faith did. But we are not all like that. Not all the priests in the faith are like that. Those were sick people. But don't give into the hype as long as you believe and faith in your religion there should be no words that can damage that.

There is nothing "bad" about following the will of God; and Scripture makes it clear that God's eternal will was for ONE Church to exist, the one founded by God Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ, the Church that Scripture calls "the pillar and foundation of truth", the one Church that can trace its history directly back to Christ and His apostles.

Women in the Catholic Church do everything that Protestant ministers do except baptize, and Catholic men don't do that either unless they are priests. Women in the Catholic Church preach, teach, counsel, administrate, lead prayer, and minister in every way that men do. This is greatly different from many Protestant churches where women are not allowed to participate in such ministry.

As for your inane comment about "little boys", Catholics don't treat children any differently than any other God-fearing people do - and in many cases much better. The few homosexual priests who have committed crimes against adolescent boys are no more numerous than the Protestant ministers who have done the same. They just get more press, because the liberal secular media have an agenda to denigrate the Catholic Church, which they see as the principle opponent of their ungodly liberal position. They realize that any godly position taken by Protestant churches is just a reflection of their Catholic roots. So they attack the source.

Well, look at it this way. What religion doesn't have a bad reputation. The majority of Catholics weren't affected by the priest scandal, but that's what you think of when you hear Catholic. Mormons are all thought of as being incestuous polygamists, again a VERY small fraction of Mormons live that way. Muslims, they aren't taught to be terrorists, but the very few that were are what give the rest bad reps.

WOW bless your heart.....I have been answering questions for about 8 months and this is about the best one to date!!!

I am a Jewish person, by faith, by choice. I am not orthodox, but in the Reform Jewish faith as I am gay, yet LOVE G-d with all my heart. Talk about oxymoron, eh? Oh well.....

ANywho, G-d sees us all as his children right? So what does it matter what religion we believe in, as long as the end result is a love of G-d. Some churches have a bad rap as they have basically comercialized the crap out of the church to get further along in the financial arena. 10% is a fair tithe, however, look where the money goes, is it to help the congregation, or the head person of the church and his/her mercedes benz. I think that is where people are turned off of churches, it has lost the faith backing and turned financial.

Be WHOEVER YOU ARE, just be your best, and remember, you have to answer to only G-d in the end.....

Take care and be cool :-)

I do not agree with the Reverence they have for Mary, or the "Saints". But I refuse to bash Catholics, there are many Catholics who are truly Borne Again, and Filled with The Holy Spirit.

Just realize that religion is a personal choice. You are not better than someone who has a different belief. Too many people use religion as a gauge of character, which is 100% wrong.

I think the answer to your other quesiton is contained in my answer as well. Religion is a belief yet people are still individuals and will act as such. Being religious doesn't make you a better person.
