My son saw the commercials for the FisherPrice digital camera and MP3 player over the weekend. I would love to get him one of these for Christmas. Does your little one have one? What is your opinion? Are they worth the money?

He loves to take pictures w/my camera (with my help) he also loves music. The info on the FisherPrice website says that the headphones on the player are made so that they will not go past a certain volume. Oh, and he does have a bike and plays outside everyday. He was just so excited about these 2 toys.

I can understand that you want to let him feel like he is helping, especially if he enjoys it and it never hurts to encourage a child to be electronic-savey given the direction our society is going. But for a 4 year old I would look at a less expensive version. Walmart has little digital camera's (in bright kids colors), for $20.
As for the MP3 player...my 9 year old only just got his first discman and I refused to get one till they were on sale for under $30. Kids tend to not be as careful with their possessions but you would know your child better than we would so you will probably have to guage that for yourself.
I would only add that the more expensive the toys now....the more expensive he is going to expect them to be later. At 4 my son got a bike, a puzzle and a Fisher Price toy train set total- $50. That and stocking stuffers.
Happy Holidays!

ok So you get him this now, what will it be next year a car? I think things like this are great cause the give the little ones a chance to big, but looking at the long term costs, the gifts just get bigger and more expensive. I would use caution. I have a five year old and got her a TV last year, A DVD player this years birhtday and for christmas she was an ipod like her older sister ( I have no intention of getting her one). When does it stop?

well, my son is going to be 2 in deecember, and i bought him the digital camera because he constantly wanted to play with mine. i have no complaints about how it works, only that my son has no idea what he's doing and takes pictures of the floor, and that's pretty much it. i'd say if your son is older than mine and can actually be still enough to focus a camera so you can teach him what it's really for, go for it. it's cute.

first how old is he? has he shown an interest in the overall subject before and after veiwing the commercial? If he is truely interested in photography go ahead a get him the camara I would definatly talk to my Doctor before allowing a pre schooler (who cant make good decisions yet due to age) to wear headphones to listen to music.

Get your child outside for some fresh air and exercise. A bike is a much better investment for the child's health and well being.

like all tos for children he/she will use for a little while and then get bored, though the camera seems like a good product that he/she could use for a long time, I doubt the player will be used for very long, I can be wrong depends more on the kid

I think that it would be highly educational for him to have one. I was looking at getting one for my daughter.
