Starting on friday my four year old son spiked a very high fever, and became very lethargic, and complained about his throat hurting. Well his fever peaked on Saturday night, and I started noticing a rash forming around his groin, back of his knees, and arm pits. Well i searched on the web, and decided its Scarlet fever, since he mathces it to the "T" even the pictures of the rash that I found. Well yesterday his fever subsided, and his rash started to fade. Well today his fever is very low, and on its way back to normal, and is rash is pretty much gone except the snadpapery like feeling it leaves behind, and its still red around his groin area. So I guess what I am asking is...do I take him to the doctor still even though he seems to be getting better on his own? Or do I let nature take its course and let him heal up by himself?

Scarlet fever is due to sreptococcus, so it must be treated properly to prevent rheumatic fever. Also, the rash is similar to Kawasaki disease. Therefore, you must take him to the doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Yes take him to the doctor! When I was young, I had a rash (in the same area) and a fever. I went to the doctor, and found out that I had lyme disease, caused by a deer tick bite. It's treatable, but you must get prescriptions. I don't know if this is what your son may have, but it sounds a lot like it!!

Of course , you have to consult a doctor. Are you qualified enough to decide that he has scarlet fever? There are so many ailments with similar symptoms , at the same time , different symptoms in some people with the same disease. I dont think the web is a substitute for a real doctor. Take care of your child, my dear.

If he had strep throat and it is not diagnosed you risk many side effects including heart problems. My friends kid is on antibiotics for the next 10 years because he went undiagnosed had the rash and then developed joint pain and could not walk. It is worth the co-pay to hear they are OK. Strep can not be seen it must be a culture and not all children run fevers continuiously

Scarlet fever is VERY rare. Please call his pediatricians office and tell them about his symptoms and rash. If they think he does have something very contagious, they will probably want to bring him in a separate entrance to keep him away from the other children. This is normal.
