If the medication is not working or the side effects unbearable it could be the wrong treatment. Some people do not respond to chemical therapy's. Consider seeing a nutritionist or naturopath. They will evaluate your diet and make recommendations from there. I had back to back pregnancy's and severe postpartum depression, the medicines didn't work all they did was prevent me from breastfeeding which made me even more depressed. I found a naturopath and they set me on a diet to help me have more energy and restore my energy and gave me some herbal remedies as well as vitamin supplements. I felt better in just a few weeks and haven't had a depressive episode since. The diet changes were simple and together with the supplements made a huge change. There is a web site below where you can find out more.

Sorry but if you have small children then I think that the first thing that you should do it get to your doctor. You are on medication for a reason, and there have been too many stories in the news about parents doing things to their children and then using depression or some other mental excuse for doing it. I'm not saying that you would harm your children, but the evidence that it can happen is there for all to see, and if it were me, I would not be willing to take the risk that something bad could happen to my children or myself because I didn't want to go back to the doctor. Not every medicine works on every person, so sometimes it is a trial and error process to find what works for you. It may not be what you want to do, but for the sake of your children I think that you should do whatever you can and yes that includes the doctor.

Hi love, trouble is with depression its not finding a cure, but to stop whats causing it. Yes thats glib, but think about it what is making you depressed. partner, lack of partner, overwork, kids...
You then need to try and ease the problem. If its kids can you dump them on somebody for a few days? All the pillls do is numb the brain.
I knew I was going down a sticky road and we got out. You are never completely clear, and can only work thru it with others help.
You have to confide in someone and discuss it thru, just doing that helps a bit.
Sorry I cannot be more constructive, but meditation and doing something really weird helps a bit.

Some medications take up to three months before they are effective. Have you waited that long? If you have, see your doctor and have him prescribe another medication that might be more helpful.

Meds can do a great deal towards handling depression, and even though people don't LIKE to take them, they are, at times, the best form of treatment.

I found the best way to help was to exercise. That does not meen going to a gym or anything, but anything that burns up your adrenoline.E.G. go for a very brisk walk,or if possible go for a run on your own if possible as you can focus on your thoughts only. You dont need to be Paula Radcliffe to do it quarter of a mile or so to start is fine...Good luck and best wishes..Been there its not nice but hang in there you will get better..

I would get some counselling or group therapy or something, medication can only go so far but maybe talking about your problems to someone else will help.

If you are qualified enough to know they are not working then by all means go back to source & explain what you feel isn`t happening but, please remember our bodies soon get used to medication that we take over long periods of time so with that perhaps you need a different
medication.

There are lots of alternative therapies that help depression, insomnia etc, e.g. acupressure, Quantum-Touch, EFT or Reiki. Info about all of them is easily found on the internet. They may sound a bit wierd but they really do work. Your local spiritualist church may do free spiritual healing sessions - it's worth contacting them (you don't have to be a believer to go, or for it to work!). Good luck!

Go back to the doctor. Medication is only one of the routes available. See if your doctor can refer you to a counsellor.
