At school my son was assessed and it was determined that he had a condition called delayed processing. An example of what his symptoms are is that he will be asked a question and it takes a while for a response. He knows what he wants to say, but it takes a while for it to come out of his mouth, an expample used is like a long distance phone call where there is a hesitation, before you hear a response. Is this real? What more can you tell me about it? Is there a medical term for this condition?

I think you should get an outside opinion. Some very exceptionally bright people could be perceived as having the symptoms you describe, as their brains are quite busy in the interim, formulating a response. He may be among those. Einstein did not speak until almost four years old, and I bet you would have found that delay when interacting with him, at any age.

Please don't rely on the labels that the public school hangs on him, as they are just pigeon-holers, and want that problem off their desk so they can get to the next one.

all i can tell you is check the webmd.com web site and see if they have any information about it but if I were you I would get a second and maybe a third consultation before you take any steps with the school and put him through all the testing in the school ,see someone outside the school like a physician or a specialist because if you get him tested at school other kids will know and you know how cruel some kids can be you never know he may grow out of it
