Recently it has been made public in the news that Humane Societies are limiting the times of the year as to when black cats and white bunnies can be adopted, especially during the Halloween season, in large part to fear of pranks and satantic rituals performed on these animals. A study came out stating that because of these fears and superstitions, black cats aren't adopted as often as cats of other colors are. Do you have a fear of black cats? Would you rather adobt a black cat?
Personally, I find black cats beautiful and graceful and prefer them over most breeds. They are mysterious and lovely. Thanks for your answers.

I have owned many black cats in my life and currently have 3 black cats (2 outdoors and 1 indoors), we also have 4 tiger striped and 1 yellow cat. The neighbor's cat (a bob-tailed blondie, adopted us as well)...We have a horrible problem with cat theft in our neigborhood and unfortunetley the cats we have stolen the most are black ones...I think it is becuase they are so unique and sweet. I love all of our cats and they are such a joy. I have nothing against dogs, we also have a miniture dachsund who thinks he is a cat!

I would adopt a cat because of it's personality, NOT it's color! I've had black cats and they were great pets.

I have a black cat. so you get the idea of how I feel about them. I believe that they are just like any other domestic cat. in my experience they are beautiful and graceful felines. my 2 yr. old female (Liberty) is one of the sweetest most lovable cat I've ever adopted. I luvvvvvv her soooo much, she's like my baby!!!!!
as for the limiting of black cat and white bunnies around Halloween, I think that it's a VERY good idea. you just don't know how many lunatics are out there that would do anything to get the pathetic hands on these beautiful animals. if you think about it, it's only for a week or two.
I advise anybody who has an all black cat to keep them indoors this time of the year.

I'm not sure if it is superstition, but I know from working in a pet store for years, that black kitten DO USUALLY tend to be the last to go. They are much less likely to get chosen over other colors. I also know that in the store where I worked, we too never ever sold black kittens anywhere near Halloween, due to all the craziness out there. Not worth the risk of an amimal being hurt.
When it comes to choosing a pet, I go for personality, not looks. Whether cat, dog, bird, reptile. It's the personality that really matters. People should "check out " an animals personality first and not make spur of the moment decesions based on looks!

That is my theory on why my kitty wasn't adopted long before I was looking to adopt a cat.
He is solid black and the SWEETEST kitty I have ever met. I have never heard him hiss once. He has swatted at the dog once when she was trying to play and he just wanted some beauty rest, but that's it.
When we went to the shelter, he is the one who chose us. My husband, 2 children and I went into the room where he was being kept and he walked right up to my not quite 3 year old daughter and started rubbing against her leg and wanted to play. We only had to play with him for about 5 minutes before we knew he was coming home with us.
He had been there for 9 months and there were several other black cats in that same room who had been there for some time.
All I have to say is that if anyone passed him up because of superstition, they missed out on an awesome cat. Yay for me! haha
And you're right, they are beautiful.

I have a black cat I had to leave in Oklahoma (long story) with my parents and I have an orange cat that I adopted here in NY. My black cat, Simon, was (well, is... he's not dead...)very affectionate and playful. Marcus (my orange cat) is very different. He's a good cat, but I favor Simon's personality more. Marcus is coming around more now though... he's at least finally using a cat tower I bought him, after refusing to use it for 2 months (I adopted him in like August or early September).

I love black cats! I think they're beautiful, and no different from any other cat.
I think its wise to limit the adoption of black cats around Halloween, because there are sick people who would probably just do something cruel to them and use them as a prank.

People being superstitous of black cats are just being silly. I myself have a beautiful black cat named Sara that I found in an old abandoned gas station building. I've had her for over 8 years and consider myself very lucky to have her!

I prefer black cats to any other colour too. In Ireland they're considered to be lucky anyway! A black cat walked past me when I was going in to my exams and I got an A :D

there are a lot of black cats at the shelter I work at, they are beautiful and so loving I'm surprized they are still there. I've never heard of such a thing of denying someone a black cat because it is around halloween.

I have a black Cat she is a very nice kitty my Mother though is
supersticious she says the black cat has something to do with
the devil and says it will bring bad luck :(
We should not discriminate based on our furry friends colors!
