It is part of processing a crime scene. Evidence Technicians can look for prints in many ways. Prints can be visible to the naked eye or may require enhancement with fingerprint powder, special photography using filters and alternative light sources, super glue fuming (aka cyanoacrylate fuming), any many other very interesting procedures. Keep in mind that there are going to be fingerprints all over your house. The good evidence technician will be smart and know where best to look for the offender(s) fingerprints.

If you are specifically interested in dusting for fingerprints. The normal black volcanic powder mostly used sticks to oils and sweat secretions from the fingers as well as water and other foreign liquids that may have been on the offender(s) fingers. Good luck, it's definitely very interesting stuff.

Actually we don't ever check for fingar prints. We do however have lots of success in finding finger prints. We will EXERCISE our ability to lift latent prints WHEN the situation requires it.

"investigating"

"looking for evidence"

and the act of doing so is indeed called "dusting for prints"

"Obtaining latent impressions" is the term you're looking for. Please be sure you spell it correctly too. You're grammar is atrocious young lady. I think that in itself is a crime.
