I was about to heat a styrofoam cup in the microwave when I thought to myself, "Could this be dangerous"? Does anyone know if it is?

It melts and puts chemicals in your food.Any plastic does too.You should
use microwave safe glass or ceramic.I've heard styrofoam and plastic can
give you flu like symptoms a couple of days later if you have heated your food
that way.

Zapping it in the microwave a few seconds might be safe enough. But don't do more than that: Styrofoam melts.
