My Dog's mostly Terrier, so I know they like to bark and growl, but how do I get him to stop? He thinks he's a watch dog. But he's just this little thing. He Barks at everything. What should I do to get him to stay calm?

We have a Chihuahua and he would tend to do the same thing when somebody would walk by the house. We started spraying him in the face with water (with a spray bottle). Eventually he got the point that barking equaled water in face and has nearly stopped, he still does occasionally, but not too bad.

Find out if there is a common reason for the noise. If not (and some dogs will bark at the wind & clouds) take some actions to lessen this. Put shades on the window, get him some interesting toys (kong balls are a good choice.) Also spend more active time with him. Longer or more frequent walks, weekly trips to the dog park for socializing (if no dog park what about pet welcome stores?), and at least one hour of play. (Tug-a-war, ball, chase.) This will calm some dogs down since in some the barking is a form of attention getting. If none of this works go to the vet and ask some reccomenations for a good trainer. Classes cost roughly $150 for 8 weeks, but if you stick with it the results will be better.

When i moved into town my lab would bark all night long. I simply when outside when he would bark and tell him to hush in a very commanding voice. It took about 3 hours and he give it up. Depending on the dog and how persistent he is it may take longer but this worked great for me.

They have training collars at any pet store you can get that will stop the barking, and they are safe for your pet. Make sure he has lots of toys to pass his time. Good luck

Whenever he barks just say his name, and if they don't listen, then try it again. But never yell at them, because then they will for surely not listen. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
