GHD actually sell their own range of head defence products which are a little more expensive than Treseme but works really well.

As any good hair stylist will tell you you pay for quality with all haircare products. The GHD range is good, also SP, redken and Sebastian. Your best bet is to go to your local stylist and ask them what product is best suited to your hair colour and type.

If your hair is colour treated you MUST take extra care with any heat process - even blowdrying.

To keep your hair in tip-top condition - hot oils are great and reasonably priced - there are also a number of hair masks on the market which are great to use every month or so to ensure your hair is maintained and remoisturised.

Any styling can ruin your hair. The key with hair straighteners is:

1) Use a good heat defence spray when straighening
2) NEVER straightnen wet or even damp hair
3) Do not repeatedly go over the same piece of hair.
4) Use intensive treatments to prevent breakages and split ends.

I have owned 3 pairs of GHD hair straighteners and have never really had a probelm with them until I had my hair bleached (Think Gwen Stefani) - My hair was too dry to straighten all the time - just on special occasions.

I hope this helps! :)

It depends what you mean by ruin. You will notice an effect on your hair, however if you are using protection spray then your hair should not be too damaged. It may feel a bit dry at times but thats the price you pay if you want really straight hair. Why not try sometimes having your hair in its natural way just put products in it to calm it down or just make the most of the frizz and add some accessories. Good luck

I'm not a professional, but I bought some GHD's before the summer as I have very thick curly hair and had the same worry. I use them nearly every day, and have had no problems with my hair. I would recommend to anyone with GHD's to use a deep moisturising conditioning treatment on your hair, for example the Aussie 3 minute hair miracle sachets, as they really help to protect your hair and keep it in good condition.

Also, GHD's are supposed to use special ions to lock essential oils in your hair.

Yes it will damage your hair. I am studying hairdressing and have seen photographs of people who straighten their hair every day. Hairs are naturally round, straighners litterally flatten them! It strips them off all the natural oils.

To repare damage you can get conditioning treatments at your hair salon such as henna wax and hot oil.

Using heat protection spray or cream does help.

There are other methods of straighening your hair if it very curly or frizzy. You could get it permed straight then use your straigheners every few days.

Ask your hairdresser for more advice if you are still unsure.

I had my hair permed 2-3 years back and my hair is frizzy even though its grown out. I used GHD's nearly everyday and my hair is battered.
The ends look like the fibre optic light sticks were then ends of my hair are dry, broken and split.
I would recomend you try to cut down on using them if your worried about having your hair down coz its frizzy then get some nice hair bands and tie it up. i have just brought lots of new hair bands and ties for my hair so i can tie it up when i dont straigten it.

I have the same problem. If I don't straighten my hair it goes all wavy and frizzy so I do it nearly every day, and like you use special treatments to stop getting split ends and stuff. I think probably most things are bad for your hair so it's difficult. I would say yes hun it does but there's not alto else you can do xx

To be honest, and i straighten my long, dark hair with my GHDs every day, the best heat protection spray i have come across (AND IV TRIED THEM ALL) is Lee Stafford Heat Protection spray, (About a fiver from Boots) which you spray on to dry hair, at arms length, you dont need much and you do get a gorgeously sleek finish-even though my hair is quite thin / with split ends.

PLEASE TRY THIS!!!! just once, it smells heavenly too!!!!!!!!!!

user a heat protective for your hair is the right thing. ever since i lost my ghd hair straighteners i am glad because i tend not to use my new ones as frequently as they are not as nice. My hair was going brittle after much use of these. My answer speaks for itself as my hair is still in nice condition, but if i was to use them everyday then it would be ruined i think.

Use your common sense. Put your finger on the straighteners, does it burn!!>? Well, your hair is more sensitive than your finger. With respect, my 6 year old sis knows that is bad for your hair. It BURNS it and it BREAKS and starts to fall out and your hair will be thinner than it has ever been. It don't matter if you do or don't use any products to "help" your hair when you straighten it. Why don't you just wash it and leave it to dry and brush it straight. works for me. I have NEVER used them things and my hair is as straight as a bachelor and its so thick it pis*es me off.

Trust me, them things are soooooooo bad for you. Ask anyone with a bit of common sense.

Eventually prolonged use of any hair product such as straigteners or curling tongs will damage your hair. It is good that you use a heat protection spray however you hair can not cope with extreme amounts of styling such as using straighteners everyday. I would suggest that you use them but in moderation, your hair can become so weak from prolonged use of styling aids that it will break off, it is more likely to do so if you subject your hair to lots of chemicals such as having it coloured frequently. Give your hair a rest every now and again to allow the natural oils in your hair to protect it, ensure you have it cut regularly too.
