I can't name specific popes, but there have been stories of popes having illegitimate children.

See if you can get a copy of "Chronicles of the Unholy Fathers" from Goldenage Books. Popes seem to have been an unholy bunch throughout history. They were into every kind of intrigue, scheme and deviancy. Only one or two were quite decent.

Lots of popes had mistresses families, and children. The reason priests were originally not allowed to marry was because of feudal inheritance laws -- eldest son got the real estate. If the priest were not legally married, the land stayed in the church, so that now the Roman Catholic church is more wealthy than some countries. And the inheritance laws were the only reason for priests not being able to legally marry, though many had children and "wives". In medieval times, they even defended their lands, rode into battle just as any lord did. Google some of this stuff for some great reading.

The Medici and Borgia Popes were famous for having sex... Popes with children, Popes having extravagant orgies, Popes having people assassinated... Papal intrigue was for centuries a way of life, and sex figured in pretty highly. For quite a while, the Papacy was seen as a "family" office that was fought over as strongly as one would fight for possession of a nation-state.

Yes.

The celibacy rules were introduced to stop all the illegitimate children claiming inheritance and reducing the wealth of the catholic church.

The current popes are supposed to be celibate.

Past popes have indeed been found to be immoral. However, they were not removed from office. What the current pope is doing is anybody's guess. Still, a pattern was set back then not to punish priests who were also immoral. They were just moved from parish to parish.

Yes a large number of them. In cluding homosexual and incestous relations. Some popes even fathered other popes.

Oh, absolutely. Those early popes were flagrant and had many illegitimate children.

I don't understand what you're asking about the current pope though. What does he do about what?

As a lot of other people have previously answered - there is a lot of documentary evidence about papal sexual relations.

As for the present Pope - I suppose he just bashes the bishop.
