My authority in asking is:
Deuteronomy 18:22
When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

There is a great website: farmsresearch.com you should check out...most of the typical "bashing questions" are clearly answered on it. Here is the one about Joseph Smith's prophecies...

Did Joseph Smith utter false prophecies?
Most of the "false prophecies" that critics attribute to Joseph Smith are not prophecies at all, but commandments that were not obeyed either because the Latter-day Saints were not faithful or because their enemies prevented them from doing so. For example, though the Lord commanded the Saints to built a temple in Independence, they were expelled from Jackson County and later from the state of Missouri. After the Saints had settled at Nauvoo, Illinois, the Lord told the prophet Joseph Smith:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, that when I give a commandment to any of the sons of men to do a work unto my name, and those sons of men go with all their might and with all they have to perform that work, and cease not their diligence, and their enemies come upon them and hinder them from performing that work, behold, it behooveth me to require that work no more at the hands of those sons of men, but to accept of their offerings. (D&C 124:49-?*)

There are similar statements in the Bible. For example, the prophet Isaiah told King Hezekiah, "Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live" (2 Kings 20:1). But after the king pleaded with the Lord, the prophet delivered a new message, saying that 15 years would be added to his life. The Lord told Moses that he would destroy the Israelites and make of Moses a greater nation than they. When Moses protested that this would be wrong, the Lord changed his mind (Numbers 14:11-20).

Does anyone else think it interesting that so-called Chrisitans are usually the first ones to bash and put down others beliefs? That is not very Christ-like, yet they claim to be Christians...
That would be just like me telling all Christians - "well you don't believe how I do so you are going to hell."
Sorry, it shouldn't be that way. I believe all have the right to choose how they believe. I can tell you what I believe, what I know to be true. You may choose to accept or not, that is your choice. We interpret the bible differently...that is what it comes down to.

************P.S. Cookie is right also...many of his prophecies that were fulfilled and are BEING fulfilled, people will just say "oh that was obviously going to happen" or "well anyone could have known that" yet no one did, hind-sight is always 20/20 isn't it?

Joseph had many prophecies and many things that were contingent on commandments being followed as Cookie pointed out and as mentioned on the farmsresearch website.

Yes, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being spread to all corners of the world. The Civil War started with a primary cause of it dealing with slavery, with South Carolina being the first, as described in Section 87 in the Doctrine & Covenants. I know that prophecy has been posted here before, and people wanted to take issue with that. So here is another one that is being fulfilled just by your asking your question: Doctrine & Covenants 122:1 "The ends of the earth shall inquire after thy name (Joseph Smith), and fools shall have thee in derision..." I am not calling anyone a fool, but I am seeing that people keep inquiring instead of searching. Have a happy day.
P.S. There is plenty of archaeological evidence to prove the Book of Mormon is true. I went to a dinner just a week and a half ago with Jewish professor Joseph Ginat, who has a degree in archaeology and helped determine the authenticity of the Beith Lehi cave in Israel which matches names and events in the early part of the first book of Nephi. However, Dr. Ginat is still Jewish, because I assume that is where his principal family blessings are. People need to read more than one book. Have a very happy day.

I'm not prepared to defend my opinion, but its my opinion, therefore relevant to me
Joseph Smith was a con man who conned a lot of people...
"Duh! now where did i put those gold plates, they were here just a minute ago!"
Jesus never showed up in America, he had far more important things to do than appear to some yodel who couldn't pick just one woman, so he had to marry all that were stupid and gullible enough to believe him.
False prophets have been around for quite some time. He is just a famous one. The Book of Mormon is one of the greatest lies ever told and believed by the sheeply masses
my opinion!

I'm not a mormon but you might find this interesting. It's a quote from Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ.

Although Joseph Smith claims his book of Mormon is "the most correct book of any book upon the earth" archaeology has repeatedly failed to substantiate its claims about events that supposedly occurred long ago in the Americas.

As authors John Ankerberg and John Weldon concluded in a book on the topic, "In other words no Book of Mormon cities have ever been located, no Book of Mormon person, place, nation or name has ever been found, no Book of Mormon artifacts, no Book of Mormon scriptures, no Book of Mormon inscriptions...nothing which demonstrates the Book of Mormon is anything other than myth or invention has ever been found."
