run virus checks, a deep 1, check for spyware, clear out any crap, this can be done with ccleaner.com, and mostly defrag the PC. also if and when you are downloading, scan each file as it comes in, as you maybe downloading viruses. the last thing u wanna do is delete everything from the hard drive(s).

Sounds like it might be a virus or some spy-ware....But could also be some corrupt files, How was the virus scan interrupted? If the computer was shut of could possibly be corrupt files,
Star the computer in safe mode and run Disk check, If that doesn't work try a system restore.
And if all else fails Backup Data and reformat :(
But i imagine system restore will work also see if you can get into MSconfig and turn off everything that's starts up might be some spy-ware locking stuff up Good luck..

If your computer won't let you load anything it can be difficult. But try to click on my computer and then right click on your c drive and come down to properties and and click on properties. Click on tools and then choose disk cleaner. If it will let your computer clean itself. Check all the options that you would like to clean. I clean everything except my installation files and sometimes it does the trick. You need antispy software. It will help you stay safe from this type annoyances. Your antivirus these days must be up to date with the latest updates installed. Service pack two is vital for windows xp home or Pro.
Hopefully this will do the trick so that you will be able to get these things done. AVG antivirus is a free virus protection on the net that I recomend. CyberDefender Antispy 2006 is an excellant spy remover with it's own fire wall.
If this fails try system restore sometimes it will do the trick. If you installed a program and this happened uninstall that program.
Best of Luck!

First clean some space off your computer and that my help. Do disk cleanup in programs>accesories>disk cleanup then go to Run type in cookies and delete everything but the index> then empty it out of the recycle bin. If that will make your computer run faster and free up some space> then it might let you uninstall and install programs with more space on the hard drive.

Sounds like your low on disk space. But a virus could be possible. To save yourself headache, i'd just reload windows and be done with it.

Run the virus scan again. Go to f-secure and they will do a free online scan if that doesn't work. then go to accessories and defragment your hard drive and that should fix it.
