i was thinking about Habitat for humanity or meals on wheels, what other organization is good to volunteer on the weekends, which would you recommend?

Depends on many factors. Your age, how much time you have and if you have kids, and what you enjoy.
Here are some that I got involved with that I recommend:
Civil Air Patrol/Air Force Aux, teen mentor, aerospace, search and rescue. No qualifications needed just good background check.
4-H club: working with youth, community service, teaching a skill to kids (sewing, cooking, animals), leadership training etc.
Family Resource Centers - working with disadvantaged families, food closet, clothes closet, paperwork, interviews, oversee meetings, work with youth, organize events
Check these out. Volunteering is always a way to meet others and get involved in your community and to help others. I have done much and it has always helped me too.

The nursing home in our town has a HUGE volunteer force. They even have the elementary school kids visiting. Whomever is in charge of the volunteering there does an incredible job! Maybe you would like volunteering at a nursing home near you?

I've been a member of Amnesty International for over 12 years. We write letters for political prisoners and victims of torture. It doesn't take a lot of time or money. But its very rewarding.
