I have a dog who I was told was a certain breed but she obviously isn't. I don't think she's a purebreed either. Is there a website that you can pick certain features of a dog like snout shape, ear formation, body type things like that to find out what breed of dog you have?

Well, if you hvae a mutt, it can be hard to tell. It can be a mix of several things. It would be just guessing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try the the akc site and look at pictures. www.akc.org
Take a look at the description of what your dog is supposed to be and read it carefully. It could be your dog has characteristics that are not preferred in the breed, but it doesn't mean the dog isn't that breed.

For example, a thin tail that curls up over the back of a Labrador retriever is a serious "fault" according to the breed standard. It doesn't mean a dog isn't a lab, it just means that dogs with the "otter" like tail are preferred and that's what they are bred for.

What does your vet say your dog is?

You know there are some dogs out there that are purebred, but look like what some people would call a mutt. Check out the otterhound :)

If you think you have a mix, post a photo and I'm sure folks could try to guess the parts.

Have fun with your dog.

Hmm, that would be very cool if there is one! As far as I know, there isn't, but you can go to www.akc.org or www.dogbreedinfo.com and find lots of pictures and descriptions of the different breeds physical appearance and personality. Dogbreedinfo.com also has breeds that aren't recognized by the AKC. One thing to remember is that your dog is your pet, your family member, and she doesn't care what breed she is. She's still the same wonderful pet no matter what. Also, there is no way to tell exactly what breed she is without DNA testing (which as far as I know is hard to come by at this point in time but there are some companies working on it) so mainly what people do is just pick the breed that she looks most like and call her a Mix. Good luck!

Your dog is a mix, so you cannot find out her breed, as she is not one. A mutt will always have the characteristics of many different breeds. One day you'll think she reminds you of a terrier, the next day, something about her will remind you of a shepherd!

Well I kind of specialize in this sort of thing, so if you want to know the preferable dog breed matches, you can just send me a picture of your pup and I will tell you what he/she is mixed with.

Well, you can do a google search for the breed your dog is supposed to be and compare the pix on there to your dog and see if she looks like it. Do you have a picture we can see, we may be able to help.

You CAN'T!!!

A MUTT/MONGREL is *ONLY* that!

You could go to the AKC site & read the BREED STANDARDS but...it'd only be a guess! & probably WRONG!
