I don't drink as much water as I should, not even close. Plus, i drink a lot of coffee everyday which i know is a diruetic and actually dehydrates me even more. I love coffee too much to give it up, so what about decaf? Since there's hardly any caffiene, wouldn't it just count as water?

Good question....I have an extemely hard time drinkin h2o as well. and I just finished a cup of Decaf...ha ha! Well I've seen on the food channel (God love it!) that there is no such thing as 100% NO caffiene. That even decaf has some caffiene in it. So my guess would be no. Try an iced cafe americano...I think thats the one. Get it decaf. plus the ice prob counts as water if you drink the melted stuff at the end. ha ha.

I try to give myself measured amts of water to drink...like make sure you finish that one bottle of water by the end of the day. (yes I said 1. its not nearly enough but I told you I know where youre coming from...1 is hard for us.) :)

If you work out....you'll crave water more, and then you'll get the best of both worlds!

ps you prob know this already, but it doesn't just dehydrate ...a lot can also cause headaches or trigger migranes, make your breath WREAK from your stomach acids (even if you are totally oblivious it can offend people), turn your teeth colors, and give you addiction to caffiene.

Try to stop drinking it for a week. Then "treat" yourself to it in the morning or something less often. You'll appreciate what it IS more than what it was superficially fulfilling for you. (stress, boredom, comfort?) find another healthier form of fulfillment. Moderation...everything in moderation....even these yahoo answers.....IM addicted....I think I'll take my own advice...Ha ha

Good luck!

Decaf still has a lot of the caffeine that the regular does, decaf about 3% while regular has about 5-6% but the decaf also has the chemicals used to decaffenate it so it is really worse than the regular. Have you tried some of the no caffeine drinks such as Postum or there are others that get down to really good and almost the same taste as the coffee but without all the nasty stuff. Try some juices but keep the water flowing too as it is the best for you. Hope this helps some.

I suggest to my patients that they drink 0.5 oz of water per pound of body weight each day, more if they are exercising strenuously or dealing with high heat. Caffeinated beverages don't count because of the diuretic effect you mentioned. I'd be willing to count decaf coffee at about 70%. Could you live with that? ;-)

No, Coffee does have some water in it but most of the essential vitamins and stuff are depleted by the coffee. The water also evaporates from the coffee.

Decaf will help but nothing can replace water.
