Yes, I know you get the odd idiot who allways shouts 'racist' if you so much as question anything a Muslim does, but are there any real politically correct people out there? Such as those that call Christmas Winterval (or whatever)or those that are offended by the word Christmas? Or those that refuse to say black coffee as they believe it is racist? Or call a manhole cover a person hole cover as they believe the former is sexist? Has any one heard of any more mad things that you are supposed to say or not say?

I deem to be polite and non-offencive as best I can, using the motto "treat others as you wish to be treated" but I cannot honestly say I am PC. I find some of the things they have come up with completely ludicrous. I read not to long ago a post by a woman who had a learning disability and someone in her class was brought to task for using the term "brain-storming" because they thought this girl would be offended. She laughed and said she was more put off by someone assuming she was that sensitive!

PC differs from country to country as well. In America "black" is not considered as offencive as it is in the UK. But here are some to add to your list:

homeless person = "individual of no fixed address"
housewife = "domestic engineer"
blind = "visually challenged"
crime rate = "street activity index"
short = "vertically challenged"
stewardess = "flight attendant"
janitor = "sanitation engineer" or "environmental hygienist"
insane = "selectively perceptive"

and my personal favourite:

lover = "spouse equivalent"

I am of the camp where I think that people have taken PC to an outrageous level, as some others have exemplified here. It's really sad and the PC group are only catering to the thin skinned and insecure crowd when we go to PC extremes. And unfortunately, I've fallen into the trap of being "afraid to offend". And it's very confusing also to keep up with all the latest trends in "PC-speak".

It's ironic that we have to accommodate the neurotic. And again, that's taking PC to an ABNORMAL level.

If people were proud and accepted who they are and where they came from, and didn't rely on "victim cards" to get them through life, we wouldn't ever have this problem.

Racism needs to be tackled in different ways. PC-speak is not helping. And in my opinion, a racist is always a racist, period. There are too many Americans that won't step foot off their "street address" out of fear that they may have to look at people that are "different" from them. This also falls under narcissism. And while we're on the topic of PC-speak, can I also say that a lot of these people are "internationally challenged"? These folks neither explore nor are curious about other cultures or how people different from them live.

Once again, PC-speak won't fix stupidity and intolerance of diversity.

I agree with this general point, that a lot of ridiculous situations develop around an urge to be 'PC', and that we should be looking at meaning and intent as opposed to idiotic terminology. And that things like 'personhole' are stupid, because nobody in their right mind could be offended by 'manhole'.

But there is another side to this too - which is that a lot of people claim they're some kind of rebellious truth-speaker who is proudly 'politically incorrect' as a way of excusing just being an ignorant asshole. For instance my Dad insists on calling Moslems 'ragheads' with clear intent to denegrate and if I call him on it tells me not to be so 'politically correct.'

Well, I try to be. I certainly wouldn't shout racist at someone mouthing off about Muslims. I might shout 'religious bigot', which would be more correct.
My problem is that I have a vast store of non PC jokes and I have only a limited number of people I can tell them to. Certainly cuts down one's repertoire.

i'm the style who has consistently drained, nevertheless no longer consistently sucessfully, to maintain a point of neutrality and that for sure makes me greater pc than possibly somebody else. That has consistently been my type because of the fact i've got self assurance it relatively is respectful of others. i'm an company believer in handle others as you could prefer to be dealt with so I consistently shop that throughout ideas.

I think PC-ness only exist in the media , on the internet, and in Human Resource offices. Where I live (Texas) people are more important than labels.

In Ireland, people are generally accepted as people, regardless of who they are, think they are, or what others think of them . Pc. is ridiculous behaviour that lessens all involved ,dose`t empower them in any way. ( I live in Ireland ).
