A "see" is the office of a high-ranking bishop. See comes from the Latin word sedes, meaning seat.

See is an old word for the area a bishop is responsible for. Until the middle of the 19th century, the pope (who is the bishop of Rome) was head of state of a fairly large area around Rome known as the Holy See. Following Italian unification, the pope's shrunk to the estate surrounding the Vatican, but this is still called the Holy See.

The title Holy See more commonly refers to the pope and all the Roman Congregations, Tribunals and offices which make up the government of the whole Catholic Chruch. The term derived from the enthronement-ceremony of the bishops of Rome. It comes for the word "sedes" (Latin I think) which means chair.

As head of the church the pope (papa) i.e. head of the family business is supposed to know and SEE all. Being Catholic and having such a terrible history they have become adept at SEEing to it that all the evidence is (well) hidden in their notorious archives. I don't think they will ever become confident enough to allow these things to be perceived(SEEn) by the public. After all they would have to reveal which gospels they suppressed in the third century and probably publish their copies of them if they weren't destroyed at the time. That would throw one helluva big spanner into modern day 'christianity' ! If you SEE what i mean.

Because people thing of the Pope as the Holy Father which means he is without sin. Just because he dresses like a mother and calls himself father does not make him without sin. Romans 5: 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 1 Timothy 2: 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The holy see refers to the seat of authority of the Pope. See--from Latin sedes, a seat. Think "British crown" or "White House."

When you see the Latin phrase Ex cathedra, this also means "from the chair." http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05677a.htm
