In New York there's Gray Papaya, Papaya King, and a few others. They're the kind of place you eat at after drinking too much, and regret it the next day :)

Papaya King opened in New York's upper east side in 1932 and Gray's Papaya opened shortly thereafter. They both became so popular due to the unlikely combination of spicier hot dogs and papaya (as well as other tropical fruit drinks) that knockoffs have sprung up left and right.

Personally I like Gray's better and they don't charge as much ($2.75 for two hot dogs and a medium drink), but the hot dog war has been going on in New York for decades and continues today with many designer hot dog spots opening all over the city to compete with the older places.

Interesting...but must be in New York only. I've been all through the states and have never run into this "Papaya" thing anywhere else.

Don't know, but I've never seen any with Papaya in the title.

Saw a show on the food network awhile back, about the best coney dogs, anyway they showed a couple of the places you mentioned. They (owners) also serve smoothies/shakes too. Try going on the food network to find more info!
