My mom is only 46, and she already has a mild case in her feet. Both my grandmothers also have it. So, I was just wondering what I could do to prevent or lessen my chances of getting it as well?

Keep moving. I don't know if you can avoid it, but keep those joints moving. I am a prime example of what not to do. I have arthritis in both hips, and the more I walk, the better they feel. When I sit, then I can hardly move. They will get to the point that walking won't help, it will only aggrevate it, but until then, keep them well oiled by moving!

There are many forms of arthritis, each of which has a different cause. Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are autoimmune diseases in which the body is attacking itself. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection. Gouty arthritis is caused by deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint and subsequent inflammation. The most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative joint disease and occurs following trauma to the joint, following an infection of the joint or simply as a result of aging. There is emerging evidence that abnormal anatomy may contribute to early development of osteoarthritis.

There are many types of arthritus, I have psoriatic arthritis, and there was nothing I could do to prevent it, same goes for rheumatoid arthiritus which can be hereditary. Most causes of arthritus is just wear and tear on the body and simple aspirin will take care of any pain.

I agree 100% with MommaJo, keep moving. Once you stop moving things freeze up. Movement is the best thing in the world for your body. Go to a gym, go for long walks but keep moving.

it's that same mean, nasty old advice...
eat right, get exercise and keep your weight down.
