long haired black cat with white (mostly black) she is an outside cat and every morning she greets us at the porch, meowing. This is day number 2 and no Marlo. It isn't like her to be gone like this, is it possible someone has picked her up it being Halloween? I just read something how they aren't letting people adopt black cats right now b/c of Halloween. I thought we lived in a good neighborhood. This is terrible

Could be. More likely a well-meaning neighbor took her in; thinking she's a lost housecat, or they are protecting her from holloween baddies, or that she's really cute and their kids love her. I'd call the local animal shelter and your vet to see if anyone has called in about her or brought her in, and then I'd find a way of letting your neighbors know she is yours, either by posting flyers or putting an ad in the neighborhood newsletter. If none of these options work, she may just wander home the day after halloween when the people "protecting" her let her out again.

Your not being paranoid at all. Some evil teenagers like to kill cats and it breaks my heart. On the other hand im sure nothing bad has happened. A have a similar situation happen to my cat. My cat was black and white, long hair and he was an outdoor cat and he didnt come back and I was so worried. One morning 3 months later I heard meowing and I looked outside and there he was! Someone must have taken him in! I have never seen him healthier! He was soooooo fat!! lol He also had a collar on. I just send him back on his way, someone obviously fell in love with him and kept him as their own. Im sure nothing bad has happened to your cat but just to be on the safe side, I would make flyers and find out if you have any teenage boys in your neighborhood. They are usually the culplrit of the cat killings. =( Hope this helps!

I had a black haired cat for a short period about 5 years ago...one day the cat never came back..I worried endlessly then i saw her walking up in the backyard....I picked her up and the neighbor 2 doors down from me said she thought the cat was a stray and had her spayed. I got really angry and told her that she stole my cat and that the cat had slipped out side . My cat didnt act the same and acted very strange so I let her keep the cat a few days later. maybe someone tried to"adopt" your cat or due to the time of year is keeoing it for safekeeping until Halloween is over.

Give her a few days--she may be on the prowl, even if it's not her normal pattern. Cats often change mood and pattern "on a whim." We have a cat that ran off for 5 days and found his way back home. I was so happy--that was 6-2-87. He suffered a little, but the vet was able to repair the problem. He's now 20yrs. and almost 8 months old and, except for a few health problems, is doing wonderfully. Pray and, if it's meant to be, she will come back. Check with local animal shelters/pounds if you don't see her in about three days.

Sorry to hear this...you can call all the vets in the area to see if someone has found her or if she was brought in hurt or something. Put up posters right away on telephone poles letting people know she is lost and where to contact you. You should do it right now the longer you wait ...well you know...You didn't say the age of your cat, maybe she met a male cat and it out having some fun! Sometimes cats do this. I really hope you find her, let us know, good luck

Did you file a report with the local animal shelter? If they picked her up, or do so in the future, they will contact you right away. Contact them and the humane society, whatever is avaialble. ALso, if Marlo is very friendly, lots of time kids will pick up cats and kittens and take them home, so ask around the neighborhood and be sure the word is out that she is missing and is YOURS.

Maybe not paranoid, but it is definitely a concern. No mater how nice a neighborhood, you just never know. Besides the normal dangers of outdoor living, it is Halloween time and I would be concerned, also. Check the local animal control and keep searching for her.

Outside cats live in a primitive state to a large extent. Wandering ferule dogs may have gotten it or coyotes if you live in California. Or it may have had a bad encounter with a car. Sometimes they get stuck somewhere or go up a tree and are afraid to come back down. You may never know. Good luck!

most places wont adopt out any cats or dogs - regardless of color...
call your local SPCA or shelter and ask if anyone has found her or turned her in...

its not just Halloween when people torture or steal cats.. it happens year round so it may just be co-incidence..
walk your neighbourhood she could be trapped in a garage or hit on the side of the road.. your neighbours might be sick of the cat pooping in their yards and finaly "got rid of her" you never know...
put up posters and ask around
