I can't believe someone suggested putting a book over the bowl as this would kill the fish due to lack of oxygen!
maybe some craft wire or something. I would keep a spray bottle of water nearby and every time I saw the cat go to the bowl I would give the cat a spray with the water mist. It never takes long before the cat gets the message and stops the bad behaviour.
Lastly, if the windowsill ever gets direct sunlight, it's not a good place to have the fish, as it raises the water temperature and can increase bacteria in the water. Although, it sounds like a hardy little fish!
Good luck!

Well, leaving the bowl in reach of the cat is just temptation. Move the bowl, out of reach of the cat, or creat a barrier round the bowl.

Hiya, sounds like a common problem to me, as i had a cat with a fascination like this. Try putting some garlic around the bowl and the cat will not go anywhere near it as cats hate the smell of garlic. This should resolve your problem

Move the bowl?! Failing that, give the cat more attention or something to do, they're like children sometimes.Tinker just wants your attention! He gets a reaction so he carries on doing it!

Do not put something over the top if it will stop air to the tank, try some mesh or a plastic lid with holes in the top, you should be able to get these from a pet store. Something to let air in anyway.
Cats a small agile creatures, if they see it they can get it.
Good luck

Try buying a fish tank with a lid, that way the kitty can't continue it's fish-flicking.
